In Calif it would be considered a personalized plate and you would have to pay for it. I have never seen anything like that ever and even war vets or even purple heart recipents still have to pay for their plates.

If you do some research you will find that it is recommended that you do not advertise that you are a nurse on your automobile.

Studies have shown that there is a high incidence of violence against nurses and having something like this on your car can lead gang members and drug addicts to think that you may have drugs on your person, or in your car, like some nurses and doctors did "in the old days"

I too wanted to scream to the whole world that I was an RN when I first became a nurse. Then slowly realized that this is information that is best doled out carefully on a need to know basis.

I believe in most states that RN license plates are considered vanity plates and you have to pay the extra fee.

We have them in NY and I never thought to get one for this same reason.

same here. Dont' really want anyone to know.

I have seen people get licence plate frames with personalized messages. Cheaper than the plates, and you can take them off if you want

Yes we have them in NY and for doctors also but no way would I have one. I am proud to be an RN but I'm not about to go advertising it. If you stop for a wreck never tell the victim that you are a nurse. If you are a good samaratin they can't hold you accountable, unless it's gross negligence, but if you tell them a nurse you might as well be clocked in because everything you do will be picked apart and you may find yourself being sued.

My state offers 180+ specialty/themed license plates...surprisingly, not one of them is for nurses. But if you're into tobacco, foxhunting or bowling, they have you covered :)

I don't think I'd want a nursing-themed plate anyway--the last thing I need is some whack-job following me home.

I've seen a few cars that use RN somewhere in the letters of their personalized plates. They weren't officially issued from the state though. I think it is pretty cool, I'm still on the fence about whether to do it or not. I doubt carjackers stand around waiting and reading someones license plate before deciding to attack- but I'm not a criminal so what do I know.

Recently, it was stated in the news that Good Samaritans can be sued in CA.

I have had bad people follow me around and make my life hell because I am a nurse, so I certainly wouldn't go advertising the fact.

You can always get sued, but if you don't do anything negligent, you won't lose.

Do you think you would get pulled over less if you had an RN plate. I have noticed that anytime I have gotten pulled over or gone through a "check" they let me go if I was in my scrubs (I'm a CNA). Not that I get pulled over a lot but one time I was scratching my ear and I got pulled over because the cop thought I was on my cell phone. I guess I'm thinking I will be less likely to be harassed for no good reason. Thoughts?

Also why wouldn't you want to announce your an RN? I see MD plates ALL the time here (NY). If you don't give out advice to people not officially under your care then what's the harm? Not judging, honestly just want to know:lol2:
