Does your state let you administer parental meds as a NS student?

I don't feel like looking it up but I'm curious if the state that your school is in lets you administer medication. I go to a school in Delaware and just found out we're not allowed :(

I mean parenteral. lol

I haven't heard that we're not and we just had that practical, so I'm assuming we're allowed here in NJ.

You mean parenteral? We do in Oklahoma, and in my program we did in our first clinical rotation and ever since.

Yes, we can. The only things we can not administer are blood and chemo products.

I am in North Carolina.

We can in MS. We have done our clinical on injections so now we are responsible for any injections our pt may have.

PARENTERAL. yeah. same as previous poster, we can give anything but chemo or blood. im in PA.

Except at my clinical facility Albumin is not considered a blood product (usually is every where else) and I was able to give that today.

All but chemo and blood but it's taken until the 2nd year to even be able to touch IV meds and lines. Can't begin an IV until we take a specific IV class and even then, can't start an IV without supervision until RN is at the end of our names.

We can start IV's as long as our clinical instructor is there watching. Today was only my second clinical day and I have only done things such as PICC line dressing change, IM injections, SUBQ injections, d/c IV, d/c NG tube, open appy dressing change, and med passes.

That's about it so far.

My mom did her's in NJ and she said she wasn't allowed....but that was like 30 years ago so I hope you get to.

Yes we can and have :) I'm surprised you can't such an essential skill.

We are allowed...here in PA and the community college. I don't believe we r allowed to give Coumadin. I love giving injections!!!!!! How r u supposed to learn if you cannot do it on a real person? I'm confused!
