We received a ton of positive feedback and Testimonials over the years about how much you enjoy allnurses.com

But I'm curious to know...

Does allnurses.com make you a better nurse?

After answering the poll question, please share your story and feedback. Please be honest, if it has not helped, tell us, you won't hurt our feelings ? Thanks

This stie helps make me more informed and allows me to see issues that other people go through. (that I'm not alone!)

I've gotten some insight into nursing school before starting and I believe that it helped prepared me for what was to come. Now I can look back and say "Oh, so that's what they meant by that!" It makes sense now.

I voted yes, because somebody yelled at me when I said, "The Emperor Has No Clothes." Now I just keep my mouth shut, and apparently that makes me a better nurse.

I hope that your ears are wide open, and that you will ask judicious questions at work, as well as here. You sound as if the advice you received was hurtful, possibly not deserved. Please continue to monitor what you might say, if your mouth hadn't been nailed shut. Value is in the mind of the speaker, and the cognizance of the one who really hears what is said. :imbar ;)

thank you!:loveya:

This site has helped me learn about many specialties in nursing that I had no access to. This includes: Correctional nursing, burn unit nursing, labor and delivery nursing and many other areas.

Not only that, but this site is a great tool to use for venting, researching, and getting advice from other nurses.

Yep. Gave me a place to ask questions while I was in school. Now gives me a place to vent, learn and maybe laugh a bit. It is nice getting feedback from nurses, and where else are there nurses from so many specialty areas in one place?

I have had to consider this question for a long time before responding. My answer is yes, but I do add that I have to be careful to not let the negativity effect my nursing practice.

In general, I find this site helpful, informative and enjoyable. There is rarely a time I log on that I do not learn something. I especially enjoy "talking" to my comrades on the School Nurse forum. I do not think I would have survived school nursing without them and I have learned a TON from their experiences that I have directly applied to my own practice, and it is better off for it! Venting to those who understand also helps me keep my cool and not lose it with the kiddos, who are 99.9% not the problem!

On the other hand, I tend to read in all forums when things are slow in my office, and it has really opened my eyes up to the problems rampant in the nursing profession. Is that a good thing? Absolutely yes! I do not want to sit in my cushy office with my head in the sand while my sisters and brothers in the trenches take the brunt of it. I want and need to know the problems in my profession, and I want to help work toward solutions!

There have been times when I fall into the trap of getting too emotionally invested in the problems of others on this site, or getting too swept up in all the negativity. I have to take care that I do not let this get me down on nursing in general, which it has in the past. For a while last year I was contemplating getting out of nursing totally, because all I could see was the problems with no hope of solutions. What I had to do was step away from AN and take a break from thinking about nursing in general. In fact, over the summer break I did not log on to AN once. It refreshed me and allowed me to come back with a healthier perspecitve about nursing. I realize that there are many problems in our profession, but rather than dwelling on them or running for the hills, I have decided to do the best work I can in my own position while lobbying for nurses and nursing as much as I can, whenever I can. That is the best I can do to make things better for myself, my fellow nurses, and our patients.

Studying one's profession definitely improves one's job performance. This website is definitely a method of studying our profession. Knowledge is power.

How could it not? Just gleaning information from the other post, articles, comments, etc have to have a positive impact on you--makes you think, gives new ideas, sharing info, hearing other concerns in the field. What's wrong with that!

Allnurses has helped me in no end of ways since Jan 2005-being an immigrant nurse from the UK to US I had a lot to learn. I found it to be a safe environment where I could ask questions annoymously about concerns and issues I had experienced.

I have met a network of other nurses who were both informed and keen to develop as I was and still am.

I have recieved support from many regarding nursing and personal issues.
