But I'm curious to know...

Does allnurses.com make you a better nurse?

After answering the poll question, please share your story and feedback. Please be honest, if it has not helped, tell us, you won't hurt our feelings ? Thanks

WOW better a hard thing to claim. It makes us more informed, as well opens us to others ideas and concepts. it seems that when we stay just within our small local circle that we miss out on whats going on at other places. This method od networking helps in keeping some of us re-inventing the wheel, in a sense of folks sharing both problems and solutions. This site certainly helps the bound and help maintain our brother/Sisterhood of our profession. I may have not actually made me a better nurse. BUT it did help me stay in nursing....

It's hard to describe what Allnurses is for me. But yes absolutely Allnurses has made me a better nurse.

I learn something new here every day. Yet every day I read posts that have me banging my head in frustration. LOL

There have been times at work that I log on and quick ask a question and check an hour later to get advise or an answer. The collective knowledge of thousands of nurses is amazing.

It was through the support of people here that I decided to get my BSN and am now a proud BSN graduate.

Yes. I think that it is impossible to read allnurses.com and not learn something.

Of course there is my study: Although final results are not yet available, in a recent study (N=1), early analysis shows that allnurses.com may improve mental health. :specs:

I agree, I learn something every time I am on the site. I have been a nurse 5 years and I got into the site while in nursing school. I LOVE it, and it is nice to see all the encouragement given to students and new nurses.

I voted no...Allnurses has not made me a "better nurse", but it has been quite informative on many levels professionally and socially speaking. Although I do not have the chance to participate on Allnurses as much as I used to in years past, I still maintain a paid membership for those few times I have visited the site over the past two years. I used to visit allnurses and participate on a huge level years ago, and wish I had more time to continue that relationship here, but life has called me away for a time to do other things of more importance. Great site...glad it's available for us. Thanks Brian for Allnurses! :)

Yes, it has. I'm an Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN, and allnurses.com has been a huge resource for me, both in terms of education/theory (Daytonite's fabulous math lessons saved my sanity if not my grades in Peds) and practical nursing information (how to deal with lateral and "diagonal" violence against SNs and UAPs).

Thanks, allnurses, for pointing this newly minted RN in the right direction!

No this site does not make me become a better nurse, but this site definitely keep me be more informed about what's going on with nursing. It also helps me unwind after a difficult day at work. Thank you Allnurses .

I have avoided this question so many times but each time, in my head is no, so it is no.

What do I get, I am on the site often enough...

A sense of community and that is a good thing.

I feel more connected to nursing through ALLNURSES.

I wish I had found this through nursing school.

I would have been less isolated if I had visited and used the site during my dissapointing nursing experiences on a tele floor and in LTC/Sub acute.

Now, I am able to feel more connected to nursing than I did while I worked as an RN.

I am approaching the end of disabiity - Unable and unwilling to return to LTC. The experience I have/had is not fresh and I wonder if I want to stay in an environment where I experienced such judgemental, distrustful, harmful behavior, anger, backstabbing, negativity, abuse and fear within the nursing ranks.

It seems that Nursing is in crisis - has it always been so?

Sure won't get better with such dissention w/in the field.

So many people with

I really dislike feeling so disposable in a profession and reading how so many fine smart educated capable nurses are treated as such.

There are things I would love to do in nursing but I wonder will I find another opportunity...yeah I need to vent though.

I try not to vent too often. :banghead:

wow what a rant...sorry

I hope to take statistics in case I want to continue my nursing education

Also I hope to audit a medical librarian class at my Library school as it may be time to beat feet, take what I learned in my nursing adventure and go back to librarianship.. :paw:

Excellent site. No one knows what we go through except us nurses! This is the wikipedia equivilent for nursing!:yeah:

Yes, allnurses makes me a better nurse. It is alive, it is interactive, it is an adjunct to journals, books, and lectures. We can bounce our ideas and knowledge off each other and grow. Take, for instance, the blog on "sedation before death" which deals with the dark area of end-of-life care. This is one of the most intense and distressing parts of nursing, and how many lay people can you discuss this with? I have learned how nurses perform skils in other facilities and picked up tips. I feel enlightened and proud of being a nurse when a veteran explains things to us and I am so impressed with their knowledge and professionalism. I thank you all for joining in. I also get different points of view. There seems to be about 300-400 members and we get about 2,000 "guests", indicating a great deal of interest. Thank you, staff, for running it, and thank you, fellow members, for joining!

My feeling is that any time nurses can get together and share their thoughts and fears about their profession, its a great thing. Because of the number of nurses and the many types of nursing there are it is good to share those things which are common to us all.

I believe that nursing is the hardest job in the world. It demands nurses be knowledgeable, compassionate, and willing to work days and hours when everyone else is home or on holiday. The financial rewards are not always commensurate with the work and worry which come with being a nurse.

Power to the nurses!!!Lets support each other so we can work together for the goals we wish to reach to better the lives of those for whom we care.:dncgcpd::dncgcpd:

Allnurses is a wonderful site that allows me to seek information and get infomation about various issues. It is a safer avenue, beacuse at times you cant trust staff until you get to know them.
