I started in the Nursery and Post Partum back in the days when L&D , the Nursery and PP were three separates units on the same floor. I went to Ortho & Rehab when the hospital where I worked was combining all the units because I knew L & D was not for me. Over the years I had worked in Ortho, Rehab and Med/Surg and Tele. on the same hospital. I got so burnt out on Med/Surg that one day I told the NM that I quit without having any idea what I was going to do next. My boss reccommended that I give PACU a try, I have been working in Preop/Pacu for almost ten years now and still love it . I hope to work in Preop/Pacu until I retire . I also worked as an Admission nurse for awhile. I have learned so much from each and every of the nurses that I have worked with on different units. For the nurses out there that are beeing stressed out and thinking of quiting nursing give a different unit a try . Hopefully you will find your niche and don't dread going to work every day.

No this site does not make me become a better nurse, but this site definitely keep me be more informed about what's going on with nursing. It also helps me unwind after a difficult day at work. Thank you Allnurses .

I love my job. I work in Preop/PACU and Phase 2 . I work with a bunch of very smart and hardworking people, they make all the different.

I used to do Peer Interview at my old job. One of the most important question had to do with conflict resolution. We would casually asked a candidate how he/ she would deal with a disagreement with a coworker, or a doctor. Our group were usually given a candidate's resume the day before to read , so most of the time we already know your work experiences and your education/ training before meeting the interviewee. Do not badmouth your current coworkers or your current boss as this would reflect very poorly on you. Our group used to write (not reccommended) not due to lack of experiences but due to poor attitude.

I know this does not really relate to the post. A NS asked me once what the mg in a medication order meant. I told her that I didn't think she was ready to give any medication to any patient. I don't know what was told to the instructor,but the instructor yelled at me at the nursing station that the students were there to learn and i should be more supportive. to make it worse she didn't even give me a chance to explain after yelling at me infront of other people. I believe that as a NS you are still responsible for following the 5 rights before giving any medication. TAKE RESPONSIBILY FOR YOUR ACTION.

At the hospital where I work , an applicant is almost always inteviewed by a PEER GROUP before he/she is hired. The peer group is consisted of 4 people . 2 things that usually make us all say "we don't reccomend..." 1. Bad mouthing your boss /coworkers. 2. Complaint that the workload is too heavy.
