Just curious - to all the RN's, NP's, CNS's, etc. out there.....
If you had to do it all over again, would you have became a doctor instead?
Keep in mind all factors to consider: malpractice rates, med school tuition, time committment......
Happy Sunday!

Depending on what state that you live in......................there are quite a few nurses making over $100,000 per year and with only two to four years of schooling. Big difference.....................and only $100,000 for 12 years of schooling, you must be out of your mind to want to work for that.
or really want to be a doctor suzanne.... :)
How long have these staff nurses been working there? Thirty years? FP docs will start out (no matter where they are) at over $100,000/yr. and it usually goes up from there.
ohhh (evil laugh) I can't wait until you see what it's really like. $100,000 - Malpractice - other types of insurance - student loans = And nurses do make a nice living with *just*undergrad degrees despite what you may have heard.
And no, I love nursing, would never work in any other career (except maybe stealthy army ranger/Indiana Jones type...wait can women do that now? :rotfl: )
My dad and my older brother (a GP and the latter a surgeon) both encouraged me to start pre med after highschool but I didn't feel I had enough confidence then to do it so I chose nursing. Looking back, I think I could have made a good doctor and have often thought about it. Even knowing now what I do, I still think I should have gone for it. Nursing is a fine profession, though.
I have thought about it but I so much prefer the nursing modle of care to the medical aproach. So mabey an NP or CNM but not a MD.
I go to an NP even though I have insurance and even though The doctor is listed and my promary care. NP's are so holistic in their approach I just prefer that.
Heck, it took me this long to decide to go back to school to get my RN. I can't make a decision about my next life quite yet. :rotfl:
But seriously, I always wanted to be a MD. What I do know is that in my next life, I will go to college right out of high school. I will not listen to anyone who says I can't do something.
Overall, no, but every once in a while I get this little voice saying, why aren't you in med school?? Then I think of 4 more years of school, then residency, internship, not to mention the one year post-bac program I'd need to fulfill my pre-reqs. Plus I love my garden, my pets (looks like 4 now since I found that stray kitten), and my boyfriend. I'm looking forward to working 3 12s when I get out and being able to switch specialties if I want.

Absolutely wish I had gone to med school. More autonomy, more respect.
My interest as a doc would have been in research; probably medical genetics or oncology. I don't like bedside pt care. That's why I don't like nursing.
