Do you wear makeup?

Published

I have been wondering about this for some time now! lol

Does anyone worry about hair/makeup while in school and at clinicals/on the job? It may sound silly for me to ask, but for me, knowing how "dirty" the job can be, it helps me to feel good if I am well groomed. (does that make sense?!)

Anyway, just wondering what your thoughts are on this!

Yes. I wear makeup to school and work but it's minimal. There's a difference between what's appropriate for school/work and socially. I've seen a few nurses who are heavily made up and I think it looks unprofessional. Just my opinion of course. :)

I wish I was one of those people who look great without makeup because I hate putting it on everyday. But I don't fix my hair; it's just below the shoulders and I usually pull it up. I've never been a "primper," but my twin sister wouldn't even consider walking out to the mailbox unless she looked perfect!

make-up daily, no, however, lipstick is a must.

Dixen, The remark about your twin sister cracked me up. When I was a teenager (1,000 years ago) we had a convenience store around the corner. When my poor old Mom would ask me to "run to the store" to get a gallon of milk or loaf of bread before dinner - I wouldn't go until my make-up and "Farrah Fawcett" hairdo were just perfect - a very lengthy process. She'd always say - for crying out loud, you're just going for milk - not to a Beauty Pageant.. :rotfl:

20 plus years later and the family still gives me a hard time about that (they don't forget anything) geez. :uhoh3: I now have 3 kids, a very busy life and would probably go to the convenience store in my bathrobe if I had to - but will have some make-up on (not the piled on stuff, that's gross - just natural looking) - I feel naked without it... i dont see any reason why nurses or students wouldnt be able to wear makeup, its not like you wash your face 1000 times a day like your hands, but i agree about the sweating. i work as a cna, and i sweat like crazy rushing around in the morning in the 80 degree nursing home, but i still never go anywhere without my foundation, since im self-conscious about my skin, and my eyeliner, because if i dont wear it i get asked all day if im tired...no, im not tired, just dont have enough makeup on. hehe :)

I plan to wear make-up through nursing school & beyond. ( I'm a fair skinned brunette it's an absolute must that I put some color to my face.) Thank goodness for the long lasting lip colors like cover girl or lipfinity & water proof mascara's .

I don't feel comfortable without makeup on, so yes I do wear it to work. Used to use heavy foundation to cover up bad skin, but now that it's better I usually just use a tinted moisturizer, powder, a touch of blush, and waterproof mascara. I keep a packet of those oil-absorbing sheets and a small tube of tinted lip balm in my pocket all shift long for touch-ups. I just hate having a shiny face and pale lips - I feel it makes me look messy and tired. Plus I don't need a mirror to use those sheets and the lip balm is pretty sheer so I can blindly slick it on without worrying about clown mouth!

I put on makeup everyday and I'm not about to stop because of nursing school. I put on concealer, lip liner and lipgloss everyday. It isn't much and can be retouched in between class and it is really simple. I keep face wipes(Dove) in my bag and I keep oil blotting papers in my purse. I have oilly skin so by mid morning I usually clean my face and reapply concealer. It takes me about 2 minutes to get my look together but hey a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. While I'm on the subject of grooming- I also carry baby wipes or antibacterial wipes and travel deoderant in my car and use those in the summer when it has been a long, hot, sticky day and I feel like I need a washup.

TIP TO ALL FROM MY GRANDMOTHER- Always wear clean, matching under clothes.(I guess she says this in case you have an accident and you are the patient) :chuckle

I wear makeup...foundation, powder, eyebrows (I color them in with a powder...but it doesn't look like a clown or anything :wink2: ), mascara, and lipstick. No one can even tell that I wear makeup, though, because I don't wear a lot of it by any means. And I am like MLOS...I don't tend to reapply lipstick after it wears off. Occassionally I will re-powder because my skin is shiny...but otherwise I don't tend to worry about it too much.

I can say that I do NOT like to leave the house without at least my eyebrows (#1) and mascara. I am a redhead (albeit dark auburn), and my eyebrows just don't feel that full to me (although they are brown, not red, go figure).

Anyway...yes I wear makeup, no I don't stress over it (or my hair for that matter.)

Kinda scary cuz it sounds like you are describing myself to a T!!! Also redhead (dk auburn) with brown eyebrows that I HAVE to fill in everyday! I wear makeup, but only do touchups due to oily skin.

i am still in prereq phase - not in any clinical settings as yet, but even then, i would wear still some makeup just to look alive and have some color on my face..i do not like the tired look on me which is how i appear when i do not have any makeup applied to my face.

Over the years I have worn less and less gradually. I still wear some light makeup every day but would just assume quit if I could make the leap :) I'm not sure if I could give up a little waterproof mascara and lip color though! I am naturally pale and have reddish hair but I'm in Florida and we go boating a lot, so I'm not too deathly pale right now. I have really long hair and all I ever do is brush it and put it back if needed. I seriously can't even remember the last time I had it cut!! Probably like a year ago. When some rich long lost relative dies and leaves me some money I'll go for a full spa day :) Then again, I have a 30 minute massage gift certificate from my birthday 3 years ago that I haven't been able to sneak away and use! LOL

Also wanted to mention that I don't think well-groomed = makeup. I know a lot of people who don't wear makeup and look great and very clean cut and well-groomed.

I start clinicals in the Fall & I'll have to leave my house at 4:30 am... we'll see if I'm up to primping then. I am not a morning person!

I wear eyeliner every day and if I'm feeling crazy may throw on a little mascara. But I can't stand the feeling of foundation on my skin and then feeling like I can't touch my face. It gives me the willies! I don't wear lipstick unless I'm going out for a night on the town. I hate leaving lipstick marks on everything I drink or getting it on isolation gowns or my clothes.
