I have been wondering about this for some time now! lol
Does anyone worry about hair/makeup while in school and at clinicals/on the job? It may sound silly for me to ask, but for me, knowing how "dirty" the job can be, it helps me to feel good if I am well groomed. (does that make sense?!)
Anyway, just wondering what your thoughts are on this!
No makeup during clinical and here's why. On my second clinical day, I had a full face of makeup... not excessive but it was complete with foundation and mascara. I was dealing with my second patient ever and she had a high volume rectal/GI bleed. I guess anxiety got the better of me and I started sweating like a pig. The perspiration started dripping into my eyes . My mascara started running and my eyes were burning. My eyeglasses got doused too. My hands were busy with patient care and were gloved so I had to use my white school uniform top (the upper arms) to wipe the sweat away so that it wouldn't drip on the patient. My white top was stained with flesh colored makeup and black mascara. I happened to catch my face in the mirror with my black eyes, soaked hair and reddened face.
You just never know when you're sympathetic nervous system is going to kick in so be prepared.
What a great story! :rotfl:
I wear make-up at work, and have had many a sweat-inducing episode. Waterproof make-up is key. Clinique work-out make-up (foundation), waterproof mascera (also Clinique), blush and eyeliner. I feel naked without it! I even wore in scuba diving once (not on purpose -- I just neglected to take it off before a spur-of-the-moment dive.) When I surfaced afterward, the make-up was completely intact except for where my facemask contacted my face! That Clinique is great stuff!

Always wear brow pencil, mascara, under-eye concealer, blush, and lipfiniti 8hr lipstick in a natural pink/brown color. I go light on the brow pencil and blush as not to look clownish. But honestly would never leave the house without all of the above mentioned on!
