Of the nurses I know, some have their place of employment on their FB page and some do not.
I am just curious to see if you post your place of employment on your FB page and your reasoning behind your decision.
I'll start:
As a new grad, on the hunt for a job, I was originally thinking that the minute I finally become employed I am going to shout it to the world (meaning put it on FB). But then I got to thinking...is this really a good idea?
I have previously worked in healthcare (non-nursing) and even then I was hesitant about posting my place of employment on FB. I mean I did, but, this time feels different. I do not plan to post my future places of employment on FB.
I previously did not realize that anyone can find you (including patients) just by typing in your place of employment!
I have seen (I believe here on AN--maybe not--not sure) a story where a patient's family member/friend has attempted to friend the nurse on FB hoping to gain information about a patient.
Just seems a little risky IMO...
But I'm curious to hear others opinions and reasoning!
I must be employed in the only hospital in the USA that has a strict policy against using employees social media pages to their advantage. Our HR policy specifically says that employees social media sites will not be searched or used against them to maintain work/life balance for the employees. Yes I have my employer listed, however I don't generally post about work (unless its something like "glad the night from hell is over) etc...
I have the same last name as several prominent members of the hospital community - they are distant relatives. People will find them before they find me.
Sallie Mae collections found an acquaintance of mine through Facebook. She had listed her place of employment. The collection agency faxed her office to verify employment.
Oh, my. That is really something else...if someone really wants to find you they can. Even though my FB is locked down, I am still very cautious of what I post. I just don't believe FB is as private as most of us believe. Thanks for sharing!
I think that I am the only person in the world that doesn't have, and has never had, a Facebook account. It's not something that I am interested in. It's not just a privacy issue with me, but I just find the whole thing kind of silly and boring. I don't care to see a whole bunch of "selfies" of someone, or their latest vacation pics. It kind of reminds me of "back in the day", when folks would invite people over to their house and get out the "slide show" of their latest travel adventures, or some other boring thing. I never liked it then, so I doubt that I would now. From what I understand, folks post everything. From what they ate for breakfast to when they are going to bed, and everything in between. It's nothing that I would consider interesting. I love computers and everything that modern technology has to offer. I just don't understand the Facebook fascination. But, to each their own.
No, you're not the only one. I have never had any social webpage, no My Space, no FB, nothing. I'm too antisocial I have no desire to proclaim my every thought, word, or deed, and I don't want to read others', either. That makes me sound mean! I'm not, I just have close boundaries and few social needs.

Perhaps I am the exception to the rule but Facebook has allowed me to connect with long lost family members and friends in different countries, (was not born in the USA). Planning a trip to England to go the wedding of my old best friend that I haven't seen since 1999.
As for the topic, yes I say were I work but my page is pretty locked down. Only friends can see that info, and I have very few friends, only people I know in person and no co-workers. I also never post anything about work too, just in case.

I respect your opinion and can definitely see things from your POV. At one point in time I didn't understand the fascination at all, still kind of don't, but...while I don't post much on my personal FB account (certainly not what I eat for breakfast or what time I brushed my hair
), I have to be honest and say that it is kind of fun to see what others are up to.
It's true, some people post EVERYTHING, and that's where trouble can come r/t employment.
