"Eskimo Pie to change name, cites racial equality: We 'recognize the term is derogatory'" (The Hill)
I wonder if Hawaiian Punch and Cracker Jack's will also be renamed.
How about quoting the entire two short sentences putting it in context?

I'm not certain why a company's decision to change a brand is so upsetting to some people.

Resistance to any change in the status quo. Inability to accept other’s perceptions might be different from their own. Lack of empathy. Belief that they are seldom right but never wrong.

Here on all nurses.com no one will be ostracized in response for posting their opinion on how products are named or portrayed. The TOS is our social culture. I think it is common sense and common curtesy. Feel free to disagree.

If a member perceives wrongdoing by a company for keeping or eliminating their product name and/or picture and posts their opinion where is the cancellation? Are those who disagree with what the companies are choosing to do part of the cancel culture?

And these are private companies; they can do anything they want. Now I think I'll go knock down the statue of our town's founder to make ME feel better:) How are we to refer to the "formerly known as Eskimos" now? I had no idea it was offensive to anyone but I am here to learn.

Lots of Athabascans were called Eskimo...so were Koyokuk and Inupiak. It's the lazy language of the white colonists.
Ahhh. But I see that it's all also the name of a language. Hey, if they want to get rid of the name, it's their company and they can change it to Sanskrit if they want. But I don't get my panties in a knot when people think I wouldn't eat stuff that's non-Kosher just because of my name. I don't expect people in the hick town I moved to to understand the intricacies of Judaism....just don't. Yes, it would be nice if everyone in the world could be sensitive to every other person in the world but it isn't and never will be. There is just too much to know different cultures. However, I get it that people here in the USA can learn about their own citizens. Now is lazy:) But I also know that people who aren't as lucky as I was to get a good education, have to spend a lot more time struggling just to survive and I don't hold their ignorance against them.

Didn't affect my decision to continue using their products.
I don't remember any big publicity effort re the image & its removal.
It was. People made a big deal about that too. We didn't care.

You can add me to this list. But, The Hill article says one "one" Unuk woman complained. I would prefer seeing the tribes weighing in. I live within 15 minutes of a tribal community and they are included in the town government. There are issues they bicker over because their culture is as complex as ours. And it's no big deal except that it struck me as a little over-arching to say that the tribes entered the complaint when, in fact, it might not ever have been an issue for them. They have taken on shared ecological projects with our town and we take their advice since they have lived alongside our waters longer than we have. It's very easy to fall into the trap of assuming that they all think alike - that strikes me as a little.....racist.

According to the story, someone did complain - 1 woman. And it was heartening that the company responded. Should the Robert E. Lee Hotel in Lexington, VA. change it's name (Yessssss!) but should Leesburg, VA. have to change it's name? I'm sure eventually 1 person, at least, will complain about the town's name and these things can periscope into infinity. At my age, I am mostly a mere observer in life and can't wait to see how this unfolds. Whitesburg, Alabama anyone?
