I wonder if Hawaiian Punch and Cracker Jack's will also be renamed.

The point is that it is amusing (in a very unflattering way) that white Americans are so very fragile about such matters and seem to want their fragility and feelings to matter most.

Some White people. The gentleman who worked at the Juneau liquor store was used to tourists. He smiled as he said he was an Eskimo selling Eskimo pies. He was Netsilik from Canada.

I once was taking an anthropology class where we had a guest speaker. He saw a skull on display and asked, "Is that my ancestor? It is someones family. How would you feel if they dug up the graves at the Veteran's cemetery?"

Eskimo-Aleut languages, family of languages spoken in Greenland, Canada, Alaska (United States), and eastern Siberia (Russia), by the Eskimo and Aleut peoples. Aleut is a single language with two surviving dialects. Eskimo consists of two divisions: Yupik, spoken in Siberia and southwestern Alaska, and Inuit, spoken in northern Alaska, Canada, and Greenland. Each division includes several dialects...

Some. Yes

As if there is any justification for any white person anywhere to be upset by the rebranding.

I appreciate the education on Alaska natives...I live in Alaska and get to experience portions of their rich culture and heritage in person on a regular basis. Many of the natives are struggling to save their ancestral languages and songs because they were forbidden to use them by the white colonists who put their children in christian boarding schools. We are trying to return the names of our mountains and geographic features or places to their original native names...Denali for instance or Utquiagvik (Barrow).

But the way...that reclaiming the ancient names for these places really upset some of the white people too. Did you hear the whining when Denali got to take off that cloak of McKinley and just be herself.

My wonderful aunt, whose mother was Cherokee, grew up on a wheat farm. Her husband, our mother's brother was accepted as a tribal member, but NOT by the U.S. government. Her adopted son and his brothers and sisters are 1/4th so qualified for student housing and lower tuition at the University of Oklahoma.

My uncle participated in ceremonial duties and honors. She was not interested. He tried to learn Cherokee and we all learned songs. Once at a nighttime ceremonial on a football field the men came in first. Lights were on. The men were shirtless that hot Summer night. The one red-haired white skinned man, who was a tribal member stood out among the other men as light reflected. (My uncle was very dark and blended in with the other men as did my then teen cousin. (Now he is a doctor)

I got to dance at the yearly Pow WOW!, but not the ceremonials. My uncle went every year to kill termites and other pests as he had a pest control business. We kids went to Bible day camp having fun and learning a lot. At night we were at a house where I got to listen to old ladie's stories. Onw spoke about the "Trail of Tears" as thogh she had been there. S My memory of her saying, "Whe we got to Oklahome people were sick Too many died because we didn't yet know the medicinal plants."

Years later when I read "Roots" the old ladies Alex Haley learned from reminded me of the old ladies on the reservation. One of them had been born enslaved. She didn't remember that. Her stepfather had been Cherokee and moved the family to Oklahoma.

While I listened to old people my sister led kids in "Mother May I?", "Simon Says", and "Statues". Here's the chorus of "Amazing Grace" phonetically in Cherokee as I remember.

OOH NAY THLA NAH, HEE OO WAY GEE.’
E GAH GWOO YAH HAY EE.
NAW GWOO JOE SAH, WE YOU LOW SAY,
E GAH GWOO YAH HO NAH

Thank you! I had to look it up.

On January 13th, 1916, hunter-naturalist Charles Sheldon made an appeal to Thomas Riggs of the Alaska Engineering Commission regarding the naming of the park and its crown jewel: “I hope that in the bill you will call it ‘Mt Denali National Park’ so that the true old Indian [sic] name of Mt McKinley (meaning ‘the Great One’) will thus be preserved.”

On the same day that Sheldon sent his letter, mountaineer Belmore Browne also wrote to Riggs about the naming of the park and was unequivocal in his language, referring to the proposed park as “Denali National Park.”

I am NOT upset about the damn ice cream. Puhleez, company did the right thing. Just sayin' that I am interested to see how it plays out with the names of towns...which is a logical conclusion of this urge to right the wrongs. I don't have much faith that changing the names (and it SHOULD be Mt. Denali!) makes everyone feel good but I'm not confident that it will make a change in the lives of marginalized people. I don't think we need to get rid of The Merchant of Venice because of the stereotype of Jews in the Shylock character. But someONE out there will try to remove the play from the public domain in the future. He is an offensive character but I don't take offense. I do get hot under the collar with present-day slurs but I accept that the other person is the orifice in the equation - not I:)

So basically "tolerant" cancel culture liberals. Got it.

As if refusing to vote on a Supreme Court justice nominee because they didn’t like the president who nominated him isn’t the very Apex of that exact kind of “cancel culture” approach.

If you’re going to dismiss and marginalize a way that people handle what they find destructive, you may want to make sure your own party hasn’t already jumped the shark using that exact same method.

Back to our common topic: besides the sugar content and possibility for dietary issues, what do Eskimo pies have to do with nursing?

curiosity on common topic: did you earn your AS or BSN?

Eskimoo pies have to "do" with nursing when you're in the Breakroom forum.

I THINK we are in the Breakroom:)
