Im a nursing student and I just realized that I hate doctors! Theyre total douche bags! I was at a clinical and it was lunch time so I sat down at my table. Then this doctor asked if he could sit down because I had two empty seats. So i said sure go ahead. Then two other doctors show up and he tells me that he needs my seat because he has another friend coming. Who the hell does he think he is? is it because Im a nursing student and he thinks hes a doctor hes better than me? I really hate doctors and Im rethinking my career choice because I dont want to work near these evil cruel people. Are the doctors you work with terrible too?
It depends on where you work. At my old job, there were only a few doctors I got along with. I always saw them as my superiors. At my new job, I don't have a problem with any of the doctors and think of the more as teammates rather than anything else. I also went from HCA to a teacher hospital.
I work in an OBGYN clinic and I LOVE most all of my docs. While there are some that are a little more difficult to work with, the majority of docs I have met are great so try to remember when you meet one of the jerk ones that they are the minority and the other docs probably think they are jerks too.
I work in an inpatient Hospice unit. Our medical director is the kindest person I have ever met. She oozes compassion, caring, and empathy. If I had an ounce of her compassion I'd consider myself lucky. Don't generalize. It seems like you have some maturing to do. You're right, maybe this isn't the field for you.
Sounds like this guy was a real jerk. I'm sorry for that.
However, the fact that you are letting one or two bad incidences change your career goal says to me that there is something a little deeper going on here. I have always been a pretty sensitive person, but life experiences and a firm look in the mirror has really taught me to toughen up a bit. I used to constantly get walked all over by whoever whenever, and I had to take a good look at my own self esteem to decide exactly what I thought I was worth, and decide if I was going to continue to live my life being the door mat.
As a Christian, I think it is important to turn the other cheek, and give out a dose of forgiveness even when it's not asked. But there also comes a time when you have to realize that no one mistreats you, unless you let them. You also have to remember that whoever they are, or whatever they "do", I don't care if they are a rocket scientist, a doctor or a janitor, (ALL important professions) they still put one leg in their pants at a time, and still wipe their butts (we hope) just like we do.
There are plenty of jerk doctors out there, and I'm sure there are many more awesome, kind and friendly doctors who will help you along the way. Take a look at yourself, realize what you are worth, and don't let a few jack***es keep you from doing what it is you are meant to do.
I have encountered many rude, demeaning, and nasty Dr.'s. Also, just as many rude, demeaning, and nasty RNs.
I've also had the privilege of working with many dedicated, intelligent, and kind physician's who I admire. In fact, my boyfriend's one.
I don't know what the situation was. Were you taking a whole large table to yourself? Sorry you felt jilted, but your attitude really needs to change.

90% of the doctors I deal with are great. They respect me, I respect them.
Yes - there are jerks out there. News flash - no matter what profession you choose, you will run into jerks.
Question - lets play lets pretend. What if the person that said they needed your seat was another nurse? an RT? a lab tech? a visitor? Would you still be re-considering your career choice?
