I know that is REALLY outdated, lol. BUT, there are still some docs who come onto the floor that I will give up my seat. One in particular is always kind and compassionate to the patients and nurses. (He will write an order that reads, Coumadin 5mg 1 po tonight, please) If I see him, I offer my chair and computor, he always says no, lol. Another is one of those that takes so much time with his patients that he comes in every night around 10 or 11. I know he has been in the cath lab all day or rushing, so I always offer it to him as well. SOME doctors however, I politely point to the charting room, ROFL.

No, I usually do not give my seat to a doctor, unless it is one doc in particular. She has a disease that is sort of like muscular dystrophy, but not as bad. Plus, she is an awesome doc. The others have charting stations down the hall which they can use.

it's personal preference and courtesy that depends on what YOU feel you should do. Many times, doctors have a hectic schedule and need access to the computer you are on, the chart you are looking at, or the table you are sitting at. Be respectful and courteous. But dont think it is something you are obligated to do, or let a doctor treat you like you are inferior. We all work together to provide care and a cna is just as important as a nurse or MD. We should all show a little more respect and courtesy IMO, regardless of title/degree. :balloons:

I will, if he/she needs it to chart/call/use comp. and I am not doing anything particularly important at the time, but, I would do that for another nurse , as well.....

My one coworker kicked a doctor out of "her" seat! It's a pain and you go there to use the computer and she gets annoyed. Agh!

Same here. If I am busy on the computer, no, I would not move.

Yes and No. All situations are different. Our docs are great and never expects it, but are appreciative if we do.
I have an issue that seems to frustrate me more and more. I hate it when the floor is nuts, and I need access to the desk and computers, etc. and the docs, CRNA's or other nurses all congregate to chit chat, gossip, EAT, etc. It ticks me off even more if it's the previous shift among these congregaters and they should be going home

Yes, I would if I wasn't busy. Our ER is so overcrowded and as a case manager, I have a designated computer but it is in the resident's office - and they don't have enough room as it is. It's all common sense. BTW - most of the docs I work with are totally awesome and very, very polite.

No! Every GREAT once in a while, one of the really nice docs will come in and look around for a chair with charts in his hand, and IF I'm not really busy, I WILL get up for for him/her. But for most of them, even if I"m just checking email, there is no way. They are big boys/girls and let them find their own dang chair, they make more money than me, let them earn it by standing and stop acting like God for ten minutes.

If they have a broken leg , are very old and use a device to help them get around or are very pregnant and look like they are about to tip over, SURE!
No seriously, if I was not busy and they need the chair to do something I would be polite and offer the chair. My mum taught me good manners!
I would hope the doctors would do the same.

Of course I give up my chair and computer to the docs.
They're there for 10 minutes, I'm there for 12 hrs.
It's a courtesy. It's an earned courtesy. It's certainly a professional courtesy - how are we ever going to be treated as professionals if we get so involved w/ petty little turf wars that we can't act professional?
If they were there for even a fraction of the time that I am, it might be an issue. But ANY PROVIDER that shows up for 1/72nds of my shift would get the common courtesy of using my 'space'.
There are battles to pick; this one isn't it.
Besides, the sooner they do their stuff and leave, the sooner I can get back to MY patient.
