I used that line on my husband when we were dating. I'm the only nurse he ever dated and he was completely gobsmacked when I said it.
I think if it had been any earlier in the relationship it might have been enough to scare him off!

I always find myself looking at everyone's veins... I thought I was the only one!

I had a hot ex boyfriend tell me that about my hands, oh I could just start an IV right now I think was the line lol He was a general surgeon at St Vincents ER, now I'm a prenursing student with a loathing of veins but a strong desire to nurse! I wonder if any past nurses had this problem when they embarked upon studies?

Just today I told my 16 year old to get over here. He thought he was in trouble until I grabbed his arm and told him that I would love to start an IV in that vein right there. He just told me that I was not right and walked away.
Now even my children think that I am a crazy woman.

My mom and I are both nurses (though she is now retired) and my sister used to get so embarrased at church when my mom and I would poke each other and point at someones arm that happened to be lying along the back of a pew.

I don't ogle veins, but I endulge in "diagnose the stranger". Does anyone ever watch someone with an unsteady gait or hanging limb and try to figure out what's wrong with them?

The best place to ogle is in the sauna at the gym... heat makes the veins pop right up! There's some decent looking abs in there too, if that's more your taste. Personally, I'll take the veins

I did this many years ago on a date. Midway through the meal, I cast off restraint and decency and palpated a nice arm vein. There was no second date.

I don't look at stranger veins often. I've tried to find one on my 5yo..in case of emergency. Also my SO has great veins but he is well aware of when I'm rubbing them and just rolls his eyes.

All the time!
Actually last month I was out with my friends and a new person I didn't know. I just so happened to glance down to his hand, and without even thinking I said "Did you know that you have a super awesome vein right here? *pokes at it* You are an IV dream." My friends, who are used to it, just laughed if off, he looked at me like I was alien from Mars. Haven't seen him since.ROFL
