how many of you use your laptop, in nursing school, like it's goin' out of style ? :monkeydance:

i should start a nursing program in the next 3-6 months, and i'm debating over whether i should use my laptop or not. i will obviously bring a binder and writing utensils..but i'm wondering if i can keep more information in my laptop. i type 65+/wpm, so i'm thinking i may be able to get more information down. plus, it seems very organized.

what do you think? how did you go about taking notes and learning in your classes?

Most people I know that used them failed. I dont' know if they spent there time on FaceBook or what. But they just didn't make it. Good ol paper and pencil. Study everyday.

Is this pen really a lifesaver for those of us pursuing nursing school?....or do you think I will be fine with just a pencil/notebook..and/or my laptop?

How much would you LiveScribe owners recommend it? On a scale of 1-10..and why? Sorry if I missed this..this thread has blow up enormously..much more than I expected! haha :D

I start nursing school in September, so I haven't had the chance to use the pen in nursing classes yet, but I'm using it in my A&P class this summer and now I'm not sure how I took decent notes without it. I scramble so much to get every word down, that I'd end up missing A LOT, but knowing that I have the pen recording everything for me makes me feel a lot more relaxed, so I actually end up taking better notes. Based on the way I learn best, getting to hear the instructors own words over and over is really helpful. I would DEFINITELY recommend it. On a scale of 1-10...absolutely 10!

that is very encouraging to know. it seems as though this pen is all the rage for nursing students! :) i'm 100% sure that i want one...and 50% sure that i can afford it . my birthday is in 3.5 weeks...i better milk it for what it's worth! hahaha

I couldn't wait. Bought one of the Pulse pens last week at Target. Now I'm afraid to use it for the first time in class tomorrow! I guess I better take it out of its box or that will be money down the drain!

I don't need one yet since I'm taking classes online, but I will definitely be picking up a pulse pen for the first day of NS!.... okay, maybe a few days earlier so I can play...they look like great fun!

Umm... I don't know too much about this pen, but from what I've read thus far it seems like its more of a novelty.

I can type about 75 wpm, much faster than I can write. Furthermore I can print my notes, add pics/graphs easily, format very well through different organizational methods (OneNote is awesome), etc. I do see where it could be distracting in class, but I have the will power to not mess around. Or I can just disable my wifi when i have class. Furthermore, with a laptop these days, you really have all the information/resources you could ever need at your fingertips, especially if you know how to use online resources like your library database which has electronic journals, references, etc.

My pen is working very well. It is nice to not focus on note-taking, and actually listen. I can note-take in outline form, then review the parts I need extra time on...with the lecture playing, and quickly. I am very happy with it thus far.

YES... DO take it out of the box and set it all up before you use it for the first time! There are some critical, well needed updates that you need before you use it.

Good luck in school. I start tomorrow also!

And my birthday was YESTERDAY (4th of July)!

(Early birthday present... My husband bought me all the notebooks and pen case and extra ink cartridges for it on my birthday.)

Keep on mind that once clinicals start, you're not going to be able to lug around that laptop! This is ESPECIALLY where the Pulse comes in handy! The carrying case that you can purchase separately has a clip on it so you don't lose it. You can also get the little flip notepads (which I plan on using) for clinicals, so you're not carrying a huge notebook either. All able to slip into the pocket.

Your husband was nice to get you such a great birthday present. I'm going to see how things turn out with my pen. My daughter is thinking about getting one for my granddaughter, but I don't think she can take good care of it. She is 13 and has lost more than one iPod, cell phone, and other things of value. We have a test tomorrow so I don't think I will get to use it until Tuesday.
