how many of you use your laptop, in nursing school, like it's goin' out of style ? :monkeydance:

i should start a nursing program in the next 3-6 months, and i'm debating over whether i should use my laptop or not. i will obviously bring a binder and writing utensils..but i'm wondering if i can keep more information in my laptop. i type 65+/wpm, so i'm thinking i may be able to get more information down. plus, it seems very organized.

what do you think? how did you go about taking notes and learning in your classes?

:smokin:

Well thank you for your advice.

I will tell you why it is boring, becuase of the teacher.

We have two teachers for pharmacology, one of them is Irish. When we have the Irish teacher, we enjoy the class, he delivers the most important things in the lecture, emphysis the information, making pharmacology EASY. In his class I take real notes.

For the other teacher, She is nice, but becuase the students rate her porly in the module evalution, she turn that over us, she gave us very difficult questions in quizez. In the last lecture what she did is reading from the powerpoint slides just to finish and go, she speaks slowly and the class was very quit, 3/4 of the students felt to sleep.

I had finish my final exam alhamdllAlah, but she had mercy on us, she gave us good questions in the MCQ and easy ones for the short answer questions. But the Irish teacher put for us a qeustion which I answer half of it right.

Pharmacology is intersting module when you have the right lecturer.

Thanks

I also got powerpoints from my profs via emails and took notes on the side. A laptop also is somewhat noisy and takes too long to set up and turn off when jumping between classes; I didn't use mine.

Glad to know you're taking responsability for your education.

I find my laptop to be an absolute must have for lecture! I pull up the power points, and type my notes in the little box below each slide. At the end of the lecture, IF the lecturer does a test review, I just type it into the note box on the last slide. Then when it comes time to study, my notes are already on the slides they apply to, and if I want to print out a test review, I can copy the test review into Word and print it without having to print off every single slide. In our class, it started off with only a few bringing their laptops. Now, at the end of the first year, I would say approximately a third of the class brings a laptop to take notes and such. Best of Luck!!!

I never thought to look up the pen on Youtube! I just believe it's a great tool to assist students in their learning process!

Ha, I look up everything on youtube etc. I am a VERY visual person lol.

I am NOT, however, tech savvy. So I am a little worried that it will take

me a while to get the hang of using this special pen. It's just genius...

absolutely marvelous....but I am the same person who doesn't know the

difference between dish, cable, DSL, high-speed, etc.

THis pen is extremely easy to use and set up. Actually, there is no setup to it. Just download the program, install it, and use it! You don't have to do anything special with the pen except put it on it's cradle each day. It does the rest for you! Everything is controlled by tapping it on special places on the paper. It's fun to use and I can't wait to use here next week! You'll love it! I'm also a very visual person! I just went to the actual website to watch the videos, rather than Youtube. No laptops for me... Just pen and paper (yes, the Pulse pen).

I am excited for you! :D. I really didn't see a lot on their website...well not as much as I would have liked.

When you get it..let me know how easy it is to use..on a scale of 1-10...10 being SUPER easy. :D I am so worried that I will overwhelm myself with the organization and stuff....

Ugh IDK..I am very OCD and I want to make sure I don't start certain notes and get everything all mixed up..I want everything to flow and have it's place...does that even make sense? LOL

I already have it and I would rate it, once all set up, a 10 for SUPER easy to use. Just turn it on (mine is always on because you can leave it on while charging it on the cradle), and start writing on the paper. If you want to record, just tap the "record" button on the bottom of the page (there's one on every single page) and you are recording. If you want to stop recording, just tap the "stop" button on the paper. It's that easy!

The only difference is when you install the computer program, you have to make sure it gets all the updates (which it automatically downloads and installs). That takes a few minutes, but after that, simple as any other press and go type gadget!

Mystyque i have another question about the pen. If you fill up the page, do you have to stop recording. Then when you turn the page over, do you have to restart the recording, or can you just keep writing and go throughout the pages?

Just keep writing. It works well!

You can record at anytime, even without writing anything at all! If you fill up the page, just keep on writing on the next page. You don't have to stop recording or anything. You can record anytime you want! You can use the pen as just a recorder, if you choose to. It's awesome!

That's VERY encouraging Mystyque! :D

What happens if you decided to write on normal paper? LOL. Only the pen/record function would work then I assume?
