Do you bring your laptop to class/lecture?

how many of you use your laptop, in nursing school, like it's goin' out of style ? :monkeydance:

i should start a nursing program in the next 3-6 months, and i'm debating over whether i should use my laptop or not. i will obviously bring a binder and writing utensils..but i'm wondering if i can keep more information in my laptop. i type 65+/wpm, so i'm thinking i may be able to get more information down. plus, it seems very organized.

what do you think? how did you go about taking notes and learning in your classes?

:smokin:

I need to stop obsessively checking this thread before I end up buying everything on it asap. It's ridiculous, I'm an instructor and still want all these things, even the OneNote. I guess I'll always want the newest technology, lol.

Can you easily publish OneNote things to the web?

Yes, I believe it's made to do that. The other nice thing is that you can share a OneNote notebook on a server. So, say there was a faculty committee that was working on a project, The project team can use the notebook together to create project documents or document progress. It's a pretty versatile application.

What is OneNote? I'm sorry.

Don't be sorry :-) It's software from Microsoft and part of the Microsoft Office suite. Here's a link to their information page about it:

Thank you, I'll look it up. I appreciate it.

So, tell me more about OneNote. Is it time consuming for instances in which you do NOT bring your laptop to school with you??? I'm interested.

I'm not sure how to answer your question. Since OneNote is software on my computer, I don't use it at all if I don't bring my laptop to school with me. I also always bring my laptop to lecutre, since my notebooks are exclusively on my laptop in OneNote. So, instead of a binder, I have an electronic binder (which is just how it's set up....I use a binder (they call it a notebook) for each term, and have a tab for each class. Each lecture is then a page in the tab. (Notebooks are listed down the left side, tabs across the top and pages down the right side). The topic of each lecture is on the tab, so it makes studying easy and everything in the notebook is searchable, whether it's text from my teacher's powerpoint file or something I wrote with my tablet pen.

Thanks a bunch. Now, is this something that's worth working with using a laptop that does NOT have touchscreen or the pen you use? I think I will try the trial version and see if it's something I can use on top of my Pulse pen. If not, then I'll just stick with the PUlse, since I learn best by writing. Thanks!!!

Absolutely. I'd say that half the time I write my notes and half the time I type....really it depends on the lecture topic (ie are there a lot of diagrams, or symbols like in chemistry or math?) as well as the lecturer (I prefer writing my notes, but type much faster than I write, so if there's a lot to get down, I just type).

Hope this helps!

Just curious which site for the livescribe offered the AAA discount- the main site, or was it Target, Amazon, or somewhere else?

What is the AAA discount? I know through livescribe.com, they have a bundle pack for cheaper than purchased separately. I didn't want to wait for shipping, so I bought mine at Target so I can bring it home and play with it immediately. Is the bundle what you are talking about?

Thank you so much. That was what I was thinking, that maybe by the time I'm done with all the notebooks, I can use another number one notebook, and the very first notebooks with the notes will be saved on my computer and in the original notebooks. Does that make sense, I hope that I am interpreting this right. So I'm going to try to break it down and tell me if this is right. So I buy the "set" which has 1, 2, 3, 4 and then the second "set" has 5, 6, 7, 8. Use all of 1-4, then go to 5-8?? Never buy two "sets" of 1-4 because that is when the taps will be off? And once I go through 1-8 I'm sure I can be done with all those notes and its safe to start over again with a numbered one which in actuality is 9??? And when you say archive, that means uploaded to the computer or what? Sorry, for all the questions I'm just trying to understand all of the basics and details before I make this pricey purchase, but it does sound neat and it seems beneficial.

I also wanted to add that there are a number of different notebooks, including three subject notebooks, lined and unlined journals, flippads, etc. Here is the link to all the livescribe has to offer:

http://www.livescribe.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Catalog.woa/wa/browse?id=paper_products

So, it looks like there are more than enough notebooks to use to not ever have to worry about archiving anything!
