Has anyone ever been dismissed due to non-academic reasons? My GPA is not too bad, but due to other reasons I was dismissed from a four year program during my first year due to a unprofessional email exchange with a tutor. I am left wondering if any other nursing programs will accept me due to this reason. I don’t think the fact that I was dismissed shows up on transcripts, but it does seem to be a top questions when one is trying to transfer into a new nursing program after already being accepted and attending one recently. Is there any hope out there? Any similar experiences?

Nope the fault was the student’s for failing to submit all transcripts as requested on the application to the nursing program.  The consequences that followed were hers alone. Also requirements listed in student handbook

This is true. She should have done that outright. But in the present-day or future as you might call it, they usually know what schools you’ve attended in the past. It sounds like they were desperate for money and wanted to admit her for some dough.

If they ask about the reasons for your dismissal, you should tell the truth. I didn't experience it. I let the other one go and focus on this one next to my home.

That is my plan. It was at the height of covid and I was extremely distraught in general and not handling life well. It was on display when someone triggered me with extremely insensitive comments. It’s a extremely personal issue so for me to be honest is brutal and cruel of nursing schools to even ask if it happened during a freaking global crisis. I have to legit sit there crying while writing some testimony about how she was mean to me and I have to describe my worst life experiences and how I had no right to behave that way when people are dying.

Many patients were/are abused. Did you think about them that they'll probably trigger your fears?

That’s so sad! I would probably over pity them. But that’s different than someone being mean to me. I think rude people probably need to settle for subpar care or possibly none at all.

There isn’t a method to search what previous schools have been attended hence requirements to submit previous transcripts & list previous schools attended. If there is I am not aware how one would search and with the high number of applications would be impossible.

It sounds like you are reacting to your situation  with your comments about the school ruining her life( your life?) & school being “ desperate for the dough”. Not the case with 3 applicants for each slot available. You have alluded you are being asked by the programs you are trying to get accepted to.

The issue about not disclosing the requested information and the basis for dismissing student was because she lied on the application. It is about integrity, dignity, trustworthy & morals. Many schools have policies about lying. Cheating also gets people kicked out of schools.

You sent an email that reflected poorly on your character and now are suffering consequences of your behavior.

OK, obviously, I won’t curse ANYONE off again for being incompetent through a email interaction. I will also allow myself to be subjected to the misgivings and intolerance of others for the rest of my life while I bite my tongue and never defend myself. But besides owning all that, what else can I do besides nursing school with the nursing prerequisites I have now?

If you are asked about why you left you can allways do what I do. Almost 20 years ago I left a job and sout treatment for a substance use disorder and there is a 9 month gap in my employment history. I always put "Prefer to discus I person" if I get past the written and am actually sitting in front of a school or work manager I tell them I had some issue that required my complete attention. If they want more information I tell them flat out what happened and stress my nearly 20 years of sobriety, After that I wait for the chips tp fall wnere they may.

Hey, Rach. So sorry you are going through this. Your comment here caught my eye, though. Rude people, kind people, mean people, sweet people, criminals, felons, child molesters, murderers — they all deserve top-notch, non-judgmental nursing care. Period. I am hoping I misread that you would adjust the quality of nursing care based on the patient's behavior.

Wow! I would never work in such a place. I want to be a private nurse.

Polly - you are spreading misinformation about the application process and it reflects poorly on your ability to properly guide any potential student during their application process. You should refrain from misguiding those much younger than you in any form.

Unfortunately, you don't get to treat people you are caring for as a nurse based upon your perceptions of what kind of person that you think they are. Private nurse would have you in hot water even quicker, as a one on one situation leaves no room for discernable judgment. A patient and their family won't have it

That’s fine. It’s no different than retail. You help every customer waiting in line. You never really know any of them, but you provide mediocre customer service to all equally.
