Discussions always so hostile here?

Is this a place for nurses to "grow, learn, and network", or just some place for people to pick fights, who happen to be nurses?

what a disappointment. I'd hoped to find a professional site, and reconnect with a part of my life that has been lost through disability, but is still a huge part of my life. What a waste.

Are most of the people here really this angry?

God help nursing- and the patients....

JMHO and goodbye

I know there are some heated posts on here, no one can deny that.

There are also some very informative posts on here, professionals discussing topics that have been very beneficial for me. For example, I was looking for some information on tpa and I just searched for it on here and found what I was looking for.:yeah:

Just my opinion, not all of the threads are arguments. Sometimes I just bypass threads that look like they can get heated and focus more on learning what I can. Now I am a nursing student so my need for information is far different from yours.:smokin:

True- some DO look like they have a bigger chance of becoming heated- and I have always avoided those on any site.... but there is a different vibe here that is unpleasant- if it's just me, then no loss to you guys... :)

I just do not see AN in the same light as you. I see many, many people that happen to be nurses (not saints) really helping each other. I have gotten so much support, and have learned so much from the nurses on AN....started when I was a student, and continues today. We do not all think alike, approach things in the same way, but this is an awsome supportive site. I don't know what you are looking for, but good luck! You negativity is going to hold you back I fear. I will also say that if someone comes on here posting something outlandish, stupid, and dangerous......the members of AN are great at setting things straight...firmly if need be. There are always a few in any group that do things to make others look bad, but as a whole I am very proud of all my professional colleges here on this site. I feel happy & blessed to also call them friends (even through we have never met), and look foward to many more great discussions on AN! :)

I don't see it as that angry.... just people being people. Not everything can be cupcakes

What were we talking about again? :dncgcpd:

I see your point, OP, I really do. But I like this place; maybe because I grew up in a dysfunctional family so I'm used to it? :D

But in all seriousness, to me, the experienced nurses are Godsends, even when they disagree with me or chide me gently. I learn from them. And the brand new students, all excited like I was, I learn from them. Me...I'm somewhere in the middle, with a lot to learn. I guess I'll hang around for a while. :)

Edited to add: P.S. - I hope you reconsider; I enjoy reading your posts.

Please reconsider ....

I had a revelation recently regarding some bullying I'be been receiving over the last couple of years. I realised that I was not giving enough power to the majority of good people in my unit with my focus on the bullies and their behaviour.

And so every time I get a little down thinking about these two I make myself acknowledge the greatness of twenty other coworkers.

I literally force myself to picture my great coworkers in my head and quickly boot out the negativity these pathetic characters have managed to rent in my mindspace.

Had been giving the negativity way too much power.

I can't change my job right now and this little technique helps to ensure my sanity.

Please take a moment and put all the good back in and diminish the negative

Best wishes with your illness

Sheesh, who peed in the OP's cornflakes? She doesn't seem like the happiest camper herself.:lol2::eek:

And besides, I'm a member on various forums, and this place is Romper Room compared to some of those. It's not good to be so overly sensitive..

xtxrn,

If you prefer harmony, I would advise you to stay away from threads that involve issues like Medicare that are controversial.

Just for the record, I can't speak for other posters, but I was joking with you about Politics 101. I have a tendency to be very sarcastic. In all seriousness, best of luck.

and i agree with this too. let the negative trolls roll off your back! there are already screen names on this site that i think of as "friends" (weird, i know), and i'm a pretty new member. yes, people have said some ********** stuff, but i have gotten so much love and support about my personal life, my schooling and my career goals on this site that the*******ish stuff pales in comparison.

if you feel you need to go, then go on and have a great life, but we hate to see you leave. :o

Your vision seems to be narrowed. Not all of the posts are hostile. Many are helpful and informative. I used the forums quite a bit when applying to CRNA school and found them all very helpful. I have seen many debates, but I've seen way more words of encouragement. Why add to the hostility by posting such a thread? These forums are like any others, many people coming to a conversation with many different perspectives. If it's not a place for you and you don't see the value in it, then good riddance!

I joined Allnurses in 2006, so almost five years I've been a member. I've been volunteer staff for three of those nearly-five years.

There are threads that get heated, there are threads that staff cringe when we see because we know they're going to be hard to keep up with. But probably 98% of the threads that get posted here never become a blip on our radar because they are fine. People disagree but no one uses all caps to YELL AT EACH OTHER, people don't call each other names, and usually both sides walk away having learned something. Here is an example of that from recent history:

The fact of the matter is, with over half a million members, there are going to be people who rub you the wrong way (or whose posts do). This is just like real life, where personalities don't always mesh well but we all have to learn to play in the sandbox. If there are posts you feel violate the terms of service, please feel free to report it to staff by clicking 'report' in the lower left corner of the post in question. We see them all and do our best to deal with them.

In the five years I've been around, I've seen my fair share of snark, and honestly don't think there is measurably more now than there was when I first showed up. It comes and goes but I really think it's about the same as it was then, but someone else may disagree. I do know this: I have made some friends that I will treasure for the rest of my life here on allnurses....and if you stick around, you might just find the same thing. I sure do hope so.

I am sorry but this is like the best topic. I am really into this kind of thing. How did I miss this? I didn't even know there was this section on Politics in here. YOU MADE MY NIGHT! :yeah: No really you did. :redpinkhe
