discriminated

Nurses have you ever been discriminated or treated very poorly in the workplace based on gender, race, religion or sexual orientation?

@rntransition727, Thank you so much for your insight. I am very passionate when I am misunderstood. I love to learn from different people and I have asked others such as lawyers, teachers, I.T guys, to truck drivers these same simple questions with no problem. ...until now. This have truly enlighten me. Also, I'm not a student and I wasn't posting to gain insight as a career switcher. I often say God bless you", but this is the first time anyone was offended. Anyways , people often ask me how do I have so much peace.? And that's usually because my heart is too big to entertain certain people and things but on rare occasion being human I am caught off guard. Thankfully after this I still have my peace and Joy that is priceless. I will let Go and Let God from here. I wish all a Bless nursing career and may many doors open for you All. PEACE!

You are assuming a lot. Not every nurse believes in God, some are atheists, others pagans.

I'm glad you find comfort in your belief system, just don't assume everyone shares it with you.

Can I call you Spikey??

ABSOLUTELY!

ABSOLUTELY!

Woot woot! I named my new puppy Spike! Granted I personally think Angel is hotter, Spike is awesome!

They both give me happy feelings. I love spike and would kidnap him any day, but I do think buffy belongs with angel forever. Actually just got my cousin hooked on Angel last night, it's his new favorite show and I can hear it from the next room right now :)

So I typed "discrimination" into the search box on AN and got 11,000 results and multiple pages of threads.

The point of doing a search is that it can bring up some very interesting threads in which all types of discrimination have been discussed.

You also have to consider that people may not want to rehash their experiences in a new thread when they've already aired their experiences in a previous thread.

I often say God bless you", but this is the first time anyone was offended.

I guarantee you plenty of people have been offended, they are just too polite to tell you.

When you say "God bless you" because you mean it, and want good things to happen, then it's fine. Even most people who don't share your beliefs won't be offended, because they understand you are offering them something good and intended for their benefit.

The way you seem to be using it is as a conversation stopper and to place yourself above negative commentary, it rubs people the wrong way. It also tends to confirm people's worst perceptions of "holier than thou" believers.

To the OP. I think discrimination could be hard to prove. I know you have stated you are just curious about this topic, but what made you curious? Did you see or witness something recently? What else have you heard that peaked your curiosity. Discrimination can occur at anytime, hard part is proving that it was truly based on something.

What type of discrimination are you referring to?

@Esme 12 Asstiant of course you are confused so I will try to explain to Everyone one last time because I'm sure we all have better things to do then go through my posting dissecting every word right? As stated before I was not posting to gain knowledge on "nursing " in particularly. My posting was far deeper being that I am a life learner first who loves to help people through what I learn. If there are thousands of threads similar to my topic.and no one had a problem "rehatching" their experience why now would they be resistant. ...seems suspicious. Also, as mention before I have asked many other Professionals these same questions without ANY resistant. Also,, I must correct myself ...actually I was considering a career in nursing and also another Graduate option that I actually recently was accepted. Also, in response to me saying "God Bless you" trust me when I say it I really really mean it and it has no bearing on another's religion or non religion being that I myself am not "religious". Finally, I will say that I know that there are some great nurses with good hearts out here and I wont let the actions of a few stop me from loving... this experience actually gave me ALL the answers I needed as it relates to certain people, myself and situations. Therefore, If anyone else have anything to add, critique, insults do so freely, but. I no longer have neither the time nor energy to entertain it. I pray you all be bless thankyou.

Since you're not getting the kind of responses here that you were hoping for, maybe you should go back to asking the "many other Professionals" your questions -- esp. if you've decided against going into nursing (maybe there's a internet discussion board for whatever the other occupation is that you've decided to pursue, and you can start asking lots of odd, random questions there).
