Did not pass the NET

Published

Hi everyone, I am so dissapointed because I failed the NET, not once but twice! I only have one more chance. If I don't pass this time I will not be allowed to take the test again for another year. I passed the math with flying colors, but the reading I failed by 2 points! I do have the NET book, but I must be studying it wrong or something. Now they are saying we will be taking the Hobet instead of the NET. I guess they are no longer using the NET test. Is there a difference? Do you think maybe I'm not smart enough for the nursing field? I really want to become an LPN. Any advice will help. Thanks all! :)

Is the NET test the same as the Compass test?

No it's not. At least not where I'm from.

The website that Flash pasted is absolutely wonderful! I wished that I would have known about the site before I took my test. I passed with 92%, but being able to practice those problems would have eased my fears a whole lot!! It is just like the NET, although there are more sections on the real test. Those aren't considered for placement though. Anyway, I just wanted to say that the previous posters all had great tips. Definitely get the study guide from ERI World, that is the only one exactly like the test, and visit the website that Flash posted. It will help tremendously!

Thank you Starbabyfive. I wish you luck too on Feb 9th. You will be fine!!!

you're welcome & thank you, sweetg.

Just an FYI on the Kaplan Guide linked above. I bought it as I need to take the NLN as well. It goes well beyond what you need for the NET from what I have heard. Use that book to practice reading comp and some of the relevant math questions, but don't kill yourself on the rest. Thought I'd pass that along before someone opens that book and has a heart attack. :chuckle Oh yeah...be sure to check and see if your school does the writing section. Mine doesn't.

Thanks Flash!! I need all the reading comp help I can get. I am improving by leaps and bounds due to links like that one. :smokin:

sugarsocks, good luck to you on the 7th with your interview!!!

i really hope to get in as well. i think all the waiting is making me

crazy! from what i understand, our school does not send results

right away. if you get an interview= it's a good indication that

you are in. provided you do well on the interview.lol what was

it like for you sweet g ?

I took the NET today and I have to say that it was fairly easy to me. For everyone who either has not passed or is stressing about passing, I can see how that can happen too because we got there to take the exam and had to wait like and hour before they were even ready and by that time I was so anxious. But overall the material wasn't that difficult. I had the Kaplan study guide and it more than prepares you so anyone looking for a great study guide I would recommend that one. But skip the science section unless your school requires it ( mine didn't).

Hey everyone!:sniff:

Well 3rd times a charm, or 3rd time you go back to sit on the bench. Me, well, I'm sitting on the bench again. I'm glad everyone could use the web sight that I posted about Henry Ford Community College. It was very helpful but I didn't pass the reading again. (60 % is passing in reading --is that standard??) 92% in math was great though---I'm trying to be positive here! I am just heartbroken. I just am running out of steam. I can try once more in March. I just don't know what else to try with this reading. I have a few questions for anyone who can help:

1) Are you scored only on the percentage you answer correctly? If you don't answer a question, is it counted against you?

2) How do you go back to review??? I could not go back at all. We knew that before we began the test.

Thanks.

I am guessing you took the test on a computer. Could you not go back to review on the whole reading comprehension test or just the reading rate part?! I didn't know you couldn't go back and review on the entire thing.

If you took it via computer I would suggest asking to take a paper and pencil version of the test. I was told to do that if I can, but my test is paper and pencil.

I would ask those giving the test how you are scored. I will try and call me school Tuesday to get some more info for you. I am not sure about this one, but was told the NLN only records what you answer correctly so it is safe to make guesses on those you don't know.

I took the Hesi instead of the net, but I agree, the reading was AWFUL! I got 92% in it, but some of those comprehension questions were so vague it was hard to pick an answer! In the Hesi test you can keep the window open with the reading passage, so you can go back and reread or look for the answer you need. I would imagine if you don't answer a question you most definately get it wrong. Isn't guessing better than not answering on tests?
