Hi everyone, I am so dissapointed because I failed the NET, not once but twice! I only have one more chance. If I don't pass this time I will not be allowed to take the test again for another year. I passed the math with flying colors, but the reading I failed by 2 points! I do have the NET book, but I must be studying it wrong or something. Now they are saying we will be taking the Hobet instead of the NET. I guess they are no longer using the NET test. Is there a difference? Do you think maybe I'm not smart enough for the nursing field? I really want to become an LPN. Any advice will help. Thanks all! :)
Hi!
No, since I took the written version of the exam, I will be getting my results mailed to me within the next few weeks. I am very anxious to find out my scores! I have a strong feeling that I passed, but I am just curious to know my exact score, because the better I did, the better chance I have getting in to the ELMSN program at Samuel Merritt. So hopefully I did well!
Hey all...I took the NET test today at my school here in Florida...and wanted to give you my personal appraisal of the process. Firstly, I scored in the 98th percentile, so I ROCKED THAT TEST!!! Mine was computerized and I honestly can say it was cake for me. I will say, I was stressed out going in because everyone said how hard it was, so I bought a study guide, worked a midnight shift last night at the hospital and studied (okay, I took one practice test and shut the thing so I wouldn't be exhausted today)....and well, you know the results. All I can say, is brush up on math you don't use often (fractions, multiplication, division) and the reading, take your time, focus on main themes and you will be a-okay.
Hi NRSNFL-
It was only 10:30 when I replied..is that late or something? I am just a night person I guess. But I don't have to be up super early either (like some of you.) Anyways, I agree about the intimidation aspect..people shouldn't allow themselves to get too nervous, anxious, or intimidated about a test. Partly though, that is natural for any testtaker who hasn't been back to school for several years. Standardized tests can be intimdating. For me, I graduated from college in 2001, then two years later I took all of the pre-reqs for my MSN program, and then I studied for and took the GRE, so I never really had to go too long without school and studying in my life. But from my experience, like with the GRE for example, I think it is better to be overprepared than underprepared...it always has worked out better for me in the end when I study more than I have to. Studying a lot gives me the confidence I need and it makes me feel like I really did try my best. So people shouldn't think that the NET is so easy that they don't need to even study for it either, but rather, to make sure they study enough so they feel confident, and so they no longer feel intimidated...because in the end, the NET isn't a difficult test (in comparison to the GRE, for example), and just like you said, they really shouldn't feel intimidated about it.
Congratulations! I just got my results in the mail yesterday, and I got in the 99th percentile! So I am happy :)
Congratulations Diddle it's nice to hear that some one applying to Sammuel Merrit did really well!!
Diddle I have a few questions and concern. I'm registered to take the NET exam at Samuel Merritt on the 19th of this month (Aug). But I really don't know if I I'm ready. I bought the NET exam guide from KAPLAN and the NET exam guide from Cliff Study review. I took most of the practice exams on reading comprehension and averaged 60% on all of them which really sucks. I find that very disappointing. This doesn't help my confidence at all. I'm applying for the upcoming ABSN in May as well as a BSN transfer in January. Which ever gets me in is where I'm going regardless of the cost. I have two prereqs left to take this fall. (Micro and Physio) I am betting Samuel Merritt looks at the NET as an indicator for an interview aside from GPA.
Well here's my question, I recently ordered the ERI study guide you suggested to use. I was wondering how many hours and days did you put in studying for the NET before taking it ??? I love to study but , did you feel the ERI material was all that you needed???? Well I have about two weeks and I hate cramming thats why I"m putting in at least 4-6 hours a day. The study guide from ERI should be here by Sat...Would you recommend that's what I should soley focus on for the home stretch??? The reading comprehensionis my main concern ..I mean I get A's in English 1A 1B 1C , but I'm failing these practice comprehension tests. This doesn't make any sense at all. Gee I know I'm not dumb..Suggestions Please??????
PS. good luck Diddle hope to see you at Sammuel Merrit..God Bless..Mac Mac
Hi!
I am glad that you ordered the ERI study guide because the Reading Comprehension section in that study guide is exactly how it will be on the test as well, in terms of the organization of passages and questions, as well as types of questions. I recommended the ERI study guide because it perfectly parallels the actual test for the math, reading, and written expression sections. Unfortunately, the reading section on the ERI study guide is small. When the book arrives, you will see what I mean, because the whole book is relatively small. I was disappointed when I saw how small and thin it was, but it was still very helpful. It has a section on the Reading Comprehension part, and then two practice exams in the back. This isn't really enough in your case probably though, because it sounds like you really want to solely focus on Reading Comp. for the next two weeks. Is time an issue for you? I recommend that you read and read as much as you can, so you can practice reading quickly and comprehending quickly. I also used a study guide by Learning Express...which had a very comprehensive reading section, and great practice passages, although the structure is quite different to how ERI structures the reading section. But still, reading anything and practicing answering questions based on the passages will really help you...just try taking a lot of practice tests! Like even if you have old SAT or perhaps GRE study guides..those tests have reading comp sections too, and would be helpful to practice. It is a pain to have to go buy more guides though...I think there is a website online (I don't know it though, but maybe you can do a search) for endless amounts of practice tests for the NET, and it costs like $20 or something...could be worth it! Because at this point, you just need to practice, practice, practice! Try to understand WHY the answer is what it is, go back to the passage, and make sure it makes sense before you move on. This will help enhance your line of thinking for the following practice tests. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
Well I have taken it twice, and I have no idea why I did not do well. I got extremely high on the math, but the reading kicked my butt. I am not sure if mine is the same as everyone else's but there was a section in the reading on art that was so boring and hard to follow. If anyone has any tips or anything I would greatly appreciate it. I am studying now, and retake it this friday. Thanks
