Did getting into nursing school seem like a life altering event?

When you got into nursing school, did it seem like a life altering event that actually made you feel like a professional and not just a student anymore?

Of course it was! I have been working towards nursing school for so long and to finally get my letter telling me I was accepted was the best feeling! However, I will be celebrating more when I actually get through the program and pass boards and find a job!

Everyones case is so different. Life altering... no. An unbelievable sigh (with a little screaming, crying and jumping) of relief... yes. It all depends on how you got to that point, too. I just got accepted to the BSN program after a long battle with nursing admissions. I was accepted 2 years ago at a different school, but in tough war, chose to move to be with my (new at the time) husband in the military. I gave up my spot and chose love. It was the best decision that I will never regret. But after getting declined twice from different schools, I thought I was never going to make it. I really didn't want to be one of "those" military wives that just sit at home, knit, and tend to the children (we don't have any yet). I wanted to make something of myself and I wasn't going to give up my dreams just because I got married and tied down with a military man. But, all good things come to an end to make room for greater things.. and I got accepted to the BSN program! I couldn't be more THRILLED.

Nope.

It'll be life-altering when I graduate, pass my NCLEX, actually become a nurse and land my first job.

I'm excited, scared and a little anxious of nursing school.

...because, by the way that everyone talks about nursing school on this site, I've mentally prepared myself for the most mind-numbing and suckiest suckfest in creation. I'm also aware that, for 2 years, I will go through my process with the suckiest bunch of classmates that ever sucked.

*laugh*

...or not. Hopefully.

Anyway, when I finally get my RN, I'm going on a cruise to Jamaica....

*NOTE*

...but that's just my personality. I'm always excited -- for the moment (like...a 'day') -- then it's back to 'business as usual'.

*laugh*

I don't really spend lots of time celebrating mini victories...before I start getting all wound up about my NEXT agenda.

Truthfully, this is about step #3 in an EIGHT Step Goal Ladder.

I'll rejoice when I become an RN...because THAT is a major accomplishment. At that point, the battle will be halfway over.

Life-altering as in "oh S***, what did I get myself into?" yes. lol. OK, I didn't really think that until cleaning up after a pt. with C-Diff. :-P I hope you're like many of us in that you'll love it once you get going.

Yes, kind of! I mean, I know I have a lot of hard work ahead of me... but I'm one step closer to this being REAL. I'm not just "planning" on nursing school anymore... I'm GOING!! Heck yes!

Life-altering, YES, but only in a great way! Besides, how boring would life be if we didn't have new challenges here and there? I just got accepted into an ABSN program and now I'm mentally preparing for the punches! I just keep reminding myself to keep my eyes on the prize~~~~

I can say it was a little life altering I found out I got in via e-mail and i was ELATED but i got accepted to a BSN program at a university in another city soooo... me doing all my pre reqs at a community college now i had to transition to a much bigger school finding a place etc and plus the tuition is higher so loans uggh i had to take those out But i wouldnt change it at all im ready to start my first day of nursing school Aug 22 Yippy!!!:yeah:

No...just felt like... More school!!!! It will be life altering when I finally have a job as an RN!!!

Yes, it was a life altering event.

Throw in a divorce on top of it...

Moving...

Being pulled away from my kids...

Losing my status and insurance at work...

I'm tired of having life-altering events.

I don't feel professional at all.

It will be a loooooooong time before I get my mojo on in nursing.
