Did you ENJOY nursing school?

I'm getting ready to do an orientation at a nursing college! I'm so excited for that first step.

I have a question though; it won't stop me either way, but I've been curious; is nursing school really the hard- knock life everyone says it is? Did anyone enjoy it or find it tolerable and not want to put a plugged-in toaster in the bathtub halfway through?

Absolutely loved it. It had its share of challenges, but it made me a better person and made me into a nurse. Loved it. :)

I just completed my 3rd quarter. I love nursing school and I also hate nursing school. I love the challenges of learning new material and managing my time most efficiently. But I hate that my family has sacrifice so much of themselves to see me through school.

I love nursing school and will be sad to leave although I'm ready to move onto the next phase of life. I didn't make too many friends through nursing school and our co-hort cannot get along for the life of us (way too many type A's) but it's still been an eye-opening experience and I've learned a lot about myself.

It is what you make of it! Good luck to you and have fun!!!

I totally loved the last year, but if anyone asked me if I would do it over again for a million doallars I would think twice! School is what you make it and we had a great study group. I was in a cohort for dislocated workers and we had a special class set up for 16 of us. We were selected from over 100 applicants. Hard work and dedication made this last year happen. Study groups are invaluable and spend as much time as you can in your skills lab and continuously pick their brains, that's what they are there for.

I have to say I have spend nights up crying feeling so overwhelmed, and I am only just finishing 2nd semester. BUT, I am a bit of a drama queen, and this is totally doable. It is a lot of work, and although I am a straight A student, getting an A in NS is nothing like the easy-peasy pre-req's. Time management is a MUST.

All that being said, I have taken weekends off, I stop studying @ 9 every night no matter what and we have done mini vacations and beach days and tons of other stuff throughout.

Best of luck to you :)

I had some personal issues that I had not anticipated when I got accepted into the program.

Life happens.

However, I feel those issues negatively impacted my education and made it much harder than it would have been otherwise.

You have to have your head in the game and mine wasn't always there.

Is it hard?

Of course. It has to be. It is a lot of responsibility and you have to prove your worth.

I KNOW I would have enjoyed it far more without the extra baggage.

It's rough and tough, but it's possible.

It's so interesting reading all these posts! I'm a 30 year old mother of 4 who's first nursing semester starts in July! I've had to put nursing school on the back burner for a while, and I can't wait to get started. It's funny how every little thing about school excites me. I bought a pair of white nursing shoes to match the scrubs I will be wearing on campus, and when I got them in the mail I wore them around the house to break them in . I'm even excited about shopping for a cute, yet practical tote for my nursing books and notes.

I know nursing school will be one of the biggest challenges I've ever faced in my life, but because I want to succeed to badly, I know I will come out with flying colors!

I just signed up with Allnurses.com and will be on here quite a bit I'm sure, reading and commenting. :[anb]:

Wish me luck.......:yelclap:

I was laughing the whole time reading your post!!:lol2: I'm the EXACT same way when it comes to school. I get so excited about the smallest things! I like your determination and believe me if you keep that positive attitude throughout nursing school you WILL come out with flying colors. It's definitely hard work, but if nursing is your passion and you believe in your heart that you will get through you will be fine. There are good and bad days but overall I LOVE NURSING SCHOOL!!

I wish you the best of luck!!! :yeah:

mine is a living hell and my classmates will agree. but they toughen you up cause for god sakes your going to be trusted with peoples life. no pain no glory. it takes over your entire life. at the same time you feel a great sense of accomplishment. eventually nursing school will end and you'll be a RN. i think it really depends on the nursing school you go to. thats just my school. and you know what our board passing rate for the first time is 99%. all of the hospitals love our graduating RNs and we are known as the best. I've had the nursing etc at the hospitals tell us that. Think about it if nursing school is a walk in the park how good of a job are they honestly preparing you. Before nursing school I used to get 100% on my prereq finals not all the times but it has happen. I did get straight A's through prereqs though. Now I make B's. But its worth it!

I enjoyed probably 75 percent of nursing school. Not that I would want to do it again. Now that Ive passed my NCLEX I may consider telling my friends to go.
