Denied R.N. License after NCLEX

Nurses Criminal

I was so overjoyed to had passed my NCLEX, but now a state is denying me a license because I was on probation as a LVN in another state. Do I have to forget about nursing, or take the exam again in a less-stringent state? The only choices I ever see on any state board website are; Recipicality and Licensure by Examination

You've gotten some good information here. Licensing bodies ask about disciplinary actions in other states, it's just par for the course. You will likely need to satisfy the terms of your LPN license probation before beginning the application process for an RN license in that state or in any other. And it will take time.

All states must ask about previous licenses and ask if you were ever disciplined or ever denied a license. You now must answer yes to both.

I believe you would still need to address any issues regarding your LVN license. It could appear that you are trying to be deceitful by state hopping, per se. Seems like your remedy would be with the BON directly or a good attorney versed in the nursing field.

My probation as a LVN should be ending in a 3 months. I did what my old Board asked of me.

Again I ask; would I need to take the NCLEX in another State, can I use my results for another State, or am I stuck with whatever this State's RN Board says?

Check with the BON of the state/states you are wondering about.

The NCLEX is a national exam to be taken ONCE, well, PASSED once, LOL. Why would you need to retake it in another state?

They will ALL ask you about licensure history as a nurse, no matter what state you apply to or held a license in. What is your goal here? To pick a state in which to work as an RN that won't care about whatever it is you're currently on probation for?

What states don't ask me about a previous license?

What states don't ask me about a previous license?

Every state is going to either ask about it or check to see if you have a license in another state.

Since your license will no longer be under probation soon, you could take this time to get some extra CEUs to help beef up your resume.

Even when your license is no longer under probation, you may still be asked if you had another license that was disciplined in one form or another.

You may want to consider talking to an attorney who has experience in dealing with the BON.

If your license problem in another state involved drug diversion or substance abuse you may have some license restrictions as an RN. All the state boards have access to each other's information. Whatever the reason for your previous licensing problem, you may be well advised to consult with an attorney knowledgeable in these matters. Good luck to you.

No, I have no issue with drug diversion.

If it's deceitful to not have to be punished twice for the same mistake, then call me deceitful Nursduck, some might even call that Double Jeopardy. I have jumped thru all of the hoops commanded of me and I'm still getting judged. People who have made mistakes shouldn't be shackled to the mistakes forever.

Anyway, thanks for everyone's answers (except Nurseduck)

There was nothing wrong with what nrseduk8ter said.

It's not a matter of being punished twice. It's just that problems in one state will follow you wherever you go. That's why you were given the excellent advice to try to clean up whatever is dogging you from your original state.

Any state where you are trying to be licensed will take issue with any previous license problems that you've had. The previous posters are just trying to tell you there isn't any work-around. Not in this day and age. All you can do now is satisfy any requirements from your original state and be truthful on subsequent license applications.

Consulting an attorney to help you navigate this situation is also excellent advice.

I have come here for HELP not to be judged.

I had a real case and was already punished as my state saw fit, years ago. I didn't kill anyone, nor made anybody even ill. To not issue a license after I have done all that was asked of me is punishing me again. But, it's easy for you to side with nrseduk, you both have your RN's licenses already.
