Anyone else getting emails from recruiters desperately seeking ER/ICU RNs in Dallas?
The funny thing is I was trying to get to a Dallas hospital for about a month and had SUCH a difficult time getting any managers on the phone. I ended up accepting an assignment in AZ.
Too bad- their loss!
Got an email tonight about "Several facilities in the Dallas/Fort Worth area having urgent needs: Specialty ER Days or Nights 2 week contracts (Rapid Response Contracts) Pay... 2220.00 weekly"
Of course I extended my current contract through November but you can bet December 1 if they're still needing help, I'll be willing to talk money with them. Of course in that time the virus might mutate and the entire DFW area over run in zombies...
Hysteria!
Yup, certainly a healthy dose of that. But working in ER, it ****** me off that I have to be front line with this stuff when hospital administrators, the CDC, and pretty much everyone in between doesn't know their ass from the hole in the ground when it comes to policy, proper equipment/supplies, and protocol to deal with this stuff.
Working in OR, you're unlikely to have to deal with it.
I'm having a hard time following this conversation. There is no Ebola crises in this country or crisis assignments. There are two cases! Dallas has tons of needs year round and any you see are completely unrelated to Ebola.
Yeah because the last time I saw 2000/week was for a strike. And... seeing how Presbyterian is on diversion, surrounding ERs just might be trying to bulk up ahead of the storm. So I guess you could say it's not directly related to Ebola, but to say its not related to what's going on with Ebola in Dallas is blatantly false.
You are entitled to your opinion. My opinion is that you are nuts if you think the for-profits in Dallas are bulking up because of two cases. Only a couple hospitals will even be taking suspected cases and the CBC response team will provide the bulking up part. Apparently you and many others think America's experience will be similar to uneducated villages in West Africa. A better example would be the infected travelers arriving in Nigeria. Do you really believe we cannot do as well as Nigeria?
I never said that they were bringing in extra staff for Ebola itself. I was referencing the increased volume that surrounding facilities will see due to: 1) the hospital being on divert 2) public fear and being less likely to present at Presbyterian's ED.
Apparently you think that we only have to worry about the Ebola virus itself and havent considered the ripple effects that these two cases can cause and have caused.
I have full confidence in the facilities that will be treating those who are infected and I will have the staff members that are charged with providing that care in my thoughts and prayers, as I'm sure we all do.

Those staffers are still working. It is almost inconceivable that 70 people will become infected. Further, as terrified as people seem to be, it is likely that folks are staying away form that hospital, decreasing staffing needs.
