The purpose of this assignment is to speak to someone in order to get the answers. I don't think your instructor intends for you to simply post the questions on the internet for some anonymous person to answer either factually or by making up the answers.
Is there nobody you can talk to? Seems like a pretty easy task.

This is exactly why I never use this site, way to many people with opinions. I asked a simple question and if you are unable or unwilling to answer the question I asked then why even comment? I understand the assignement just find and what the instructor wants of me, I am trying to get a diverse group of people to answer these questions. Thank you for your smug response but its not really welcomed. Anyone else reading please just disregard my post in general cause its people like this one that ruin this site. People always have something they feel the need to say.

Emt2brn made a valid suggestion. If you want to be a nurse one day, not only would it be in your best interest to avoid looking for an easy way out, but to also grow a thicker skin, and not become hostile towards people who aren't telling you exactly what you want to hear.
Additionally, if you look around this site you will that that students often post surveys of this nature, and other similar types of school assignments, hoping they can save time by getting strangers on the internet to answer their questions. I have yet to see one of these students actually get the answers they're looking for, because as nurses, we know we are not helping in the long run by allowing students to take the easy way out. Not only that, but most would rather not spend their time on filling out a random survey for someone they've never met.
On the other hand, you will find that members are more than willing to help students with difficult concepts they're learning about in school, give helpful career advice, and encouragement during hard times!
Good luck with school!

Developing your nursing interview skill is as vital to developing the skill to start an IV or insert a foley. Good interview skills come from practice and that comes from interviewing people. In the ever increasing world of electronic communication we are losing the skill of looking at the non verbal clues. Non verbal clues are very important for they can give you insight to what the patient is thinking or needs. For an example if you ask a patient "Is there any one hurting you?" On the internet you cannot "see" them fiddle with their sleeve, look at the floor, and see their respiratory rate increase. All these are subtle clues of discomfort.
Sometimes patient will protest TOO much! That there isn't anyone hurting them or protest too much when you question how they lost their prescription for MSContin...all of which are important to the nursing assessment.
Here on AN! Our goal is to be supportive but it is also to help you discover the best nurse IN YOU!
Many of us are instructors and WE KNOW what our intentions are when we give one of these assignment and it is usually NOT to depend on the internet. As an instructor I suggest going to a synagog, a mosque, a Greek/Russian/Armenian church....find local community national clubs for different ethnic backgrounds and ask to interview people there....our goal is to get the student outside the box and comfortable with asking strangers personal questions. To develop this important nursing skill...the interview process.
Members can choose to answer these posts as they wish...most of us chose not to for it defeats the purpose of the assignment. Many members suggest this to ALL students on a regular basis. Those members are not being "smug" they really are trying to help you.
I wish you the best.

Hmm - IMNO, OP's post was not "a simple question".
If anyone wants to survey ANers - I would suggest using SurveyMonkey or some other survey tool rather than expecting respondents to deal with a laborious Q & A.

That isn't a survey, it's a freaking request for a life history.
Survey's need to be quick and easy. Your survey isn't.
I've answered fewer, less personal questions on a first date and got drinks, dinner, and a movie out of it!

I agree with the other. You will get much more out of the assignment if you sit down and talk to someone. That is the point of these kinds of assignments.

I'm sorry but that's not a simple question but over 30 detailed questions not a quick response asking for personal & family information. I'm sorry that you are upset that no one has the time or inclination to respond to your personal interview query.
I'm curious though, did your instructor give you suggestions where to locate potential interviewees such as local ethnic clubs, etc.

As other posters remark, survey is too long and too personal and intrusive. No way would I give out some of that info.
To emtb2rn - I thought your response was rather blandly vanilla.
And to Fiona59 - your response just about made me choke on my pepsi!!!! :roflmao:

This survey is actually exactly identical to one that had to be done class partner to class partner in one of my RN to BSN classes.
This is exactly why I never use this site, way to many people with opinions. I asked a simple question and if you are unable or unwilling to answer the question I asked then why even comment? .
So you choose to come here now, why???? With an overly long survey?
The length and depth of the "survey" indicates that is more of an interview than a survey.
