Hi Everyone! I was searching around and couldn't seem to find a thread for the spring and fall 2016 ABSN program at CSUN. Hopefully we can use this thread to talk to and support each other as we go on this crazy journey

I'm currently in the ABSN program, and I can help answer some questions through PM or just post on this thread.

If you don't mind, may you please share with us your stats? volunteer exp, certs, grades, etc. So will know what to expect
P.S. If anyone has a question regarding the campus, parking, housing, study places, etc. Feel free to ask
I lived around the area for about 12 years now. I was at CSUN for 5 years and wish to go back there again:)

Hello fellow applicants!
I wanted to ask those who have been in the program if any of you were LVN's prior to the program? Or EMT's? Did everyone who got accepted have some kind of medical experience? Thank you!

Hi there! I applied to UCLA's MECN program and CSUNS ABSN. I think my application is pretty competitive so I would be torn if I had to choose between the two if I got into both (god-willing). Do you mind sharing how you like the program so far? How is the workload compared to the pre-reqs, as I just finished Physio and was curious. I am also nervous I am not going to be able to work for an income if I want to do well in nursing school.
Sorry for the delay, it was finals.
I was actually rejected at UCLA for it's MECN program. It was my dream school, but I'm very happy with my choice of CSUN. With UCLA's MECN program you will not be a NP, but the name UCLA may help. Ppl who have graduated from the MECN program have told me that they wished they had a greater clinical experience, which you will get a great one at CSUN, but it also depends on which hospital you're assigned. I got into 4 of the top 10 schools, and so did many of my classmates who got into these nationally ranked schools. You'll need to change your study habits because it's very fast paced. You are not encouraged to work during the program, but a few work part time, although I think it's very hard.
The best thing about CSUN's program is that you get in-state tuition, which is awesome. But also, you'll need to be flexible about your schedule, you probably won't know about many things until pretty last minute.
As for my stats, my undergrad GPA was a 3.5, prereqs all A's, repeated chem lecture, B+ chem lab. No EMT or CNA experience, I did have volunteering experience.

Hi all! Thanks for the info! I also applied to the CSUN absn, haven't heard anything except some problems with my critical thinking pre-req that they may not except and they have mislabeled my transcripts and are apparently missing one - very stressful and frustrating - I really would like to attend CSUN, the cost is very appealing and the move from Norcal wouldn't be hard. My GPA isn't great but I has a Nursing Assistant for three years at a senior home so I hope that helps! Does anyone know when we will start to hear back about acceptance?

Hello,
Do you find that most people in your class have EMT or CNA experience? I am a certified Labor Doula and I am applying next year. I hope they will consider it equivalent to a CNA as it is also direct patient care. I am also hoping they will count my volunteer doula experience as well (I have clients who will write letters stating that I volunteered my time for them). I have a 3.7 in my undergrad and so far, all A's in my prereqs (Just finishing one more class in the spring before applying). Hoping my application is competitive enough!

Sorry that was supposed to be in response to RNtobe_2016!
Im sorry to hear, but where did you hear this from the CSUN nursing dept? You can check the prereq they have on their powerpoint from their info session it is available on the CSUN site. Also it is listed as CSUN course numbers so you will have to use assist.org to find out if the class you took was an equivalent course. Thats awesome I am also a Nursing Assistant at Pediatrics Dept. Hope you solve your pre-req issue! Also the Nursing Dept will start sending out acceptance late March or early April. I have friends that have gotten acceptance to CSUN ABSN starting April 2nd.
