  1. Hello, I am currently in an ABSN program and will be graduating with my BSN in May. I have recently started looking into Navy nursing as an option post-graduation. I am from California, so being posted in San Diego would be amazing. I know the navy currently has two options: active duty (for 3 years) or reserve duty (one weekend a month for 8 years), but I was hoping if people could give me insight into the daily life of being active or reserve, what the benefits are, pros and cons, how deployment works, etc. I know this is an extremely broad question, I'm just extremely confused with the plethora of information out there right now and want to make the most informed decision seeing as this is a huge life choice. Thanks in advance!
  2. Thank you for all your input, I only applied to a select number of colleges because I took my science classes from an online program (Rio Salado). At the time this seemed like a great idea to get my pre-reqs out of the way, but it limited what schools I could apply to. I paid 90k for my first degree from a UC (I graduated in 3 years). So far I have not taken out any loans for my original bachelor's degree. Are there any programs where I could get in and out in 12-15 months that are still accepting and cost less?
  3. The rest would come from loans/private scholarships (if any). So would you say go with Saint Louis then since that will put me in the least amount of debt?
  4. Hi all, I recently was accepted into Emory, Duke and Saint Louis University for my ABSN. The date by which I have to accept my offer is fast approaching, and I'm completely and totally lost about which school to choose. Regarding costs of each program, my parents will pay $30k for whichever school I choose and the rest is on me. I have recieved $7,500 in loans from FAFSA for each program. Additionally, I have a 20% tuition discount from Emory. The cost of attendance for Duke is 120k, for Saint Louis about 75k, and for Emory about 90k (with my scholarship). The Saint Louis program starts in May and ends the following May (12 month program), while the other two are 15 & 16 month programs that start in August. If anyone who has been through any of these programs could tell me the pros and cons of their experience, or if anyone has any advice what so ever on which school to choose I would really appreciate it!
  5. To those of you accepted, do you know who to contact in regards to aid/scholarships? Or what the process is to apply for these?
  6. I applied by the December deadline and I heard that I was accepted today! So glad that the wait is finally over! Good luck to everyone still waiting, I'm sure decisions will be out soon
  7. @Julfoster Have you heard anything yet? I applied by the 12/15 deadline as well and have yet to hear back. I called this morning and they said that I would hear back latest by the middle of February!
  8. @bizcocho: I think what that means then is that by 1/15, they should have admission information for those who applied by the 12/15 date. I have a feeling that they make waitlist decisions based on the first two rounds and then those waitlisted who applied in the second round find out by the third round, etc. Pure speculation but I think that makes sense, right?
  9. I know this post is pretty old, but I just submitted my application! How long did it take for you to hear back? And if you don't mind, what were your statistics?
  10. I submitted my application a few hours ago! I'm freaking out though, because I just called one of the community colleges that I did my pre-requisites from and they had some issue so they never sent out my transcript. They're going to send it out first thing in the morning-is my application going to be considered incomplete because of this? They have all my other transcripts!
  11. Hi Everyone! I was searching around and couldn't seem to find a thread for the spring and fall 2016 ABSN program at CSUN. Hopefully we can use this thread to talk to and support each other as we go on this crazy journey
  12. I can't send private messages for some reason Could you send me one possibly?
  13. If you don't mind telling me, could you all share your stats? I'm applying as well- I just started the application and want to get a feel for how I'm placed! :)
  14. Hi all, I've been a silent reader of allnurses for a while and just decided to take the leap and make an account! I just graduated from UC Irvine with a degree in Public Health Policy (I graduated in 3 years: 2012-2015). My plan was to use what would be my senior year as a gap year in which I could finish the pre-req classes that are needed for nursing. So far, I'm on track with a 3.85 pre-req GPA, and as of late September I will only have Microbio and A&P II left to finish. I've looked at a lot of post-bac and ABSN programs and I plan on applying to those, but I was also wondering if it would be possible for me to apply to universities as a new or transfer student in the fall. I've heard that second degree programs are extremely competitive and even those students that have 4.0 GPAs are sometimes denied, so I want to have as many options to apply to as possible. Also, I'm assuming my pre-requisites won't be done until around the end of December, meaning that most deadlines for 2016 programs will already have passed, so if I applied as a new or transfer student it won't be a prerequisite to already have certain classes done before applying, right? I might be completely off the mark here, and that's why I wanted to turn to others to see if anything like this is possible or if my ideas are even somewhat on-point. Thank you so much for your input!
