Hi everyone!
I haven't seen any postings from CSUF EL-MSN Fall 2010 applicants! Are there any of you out there? I received my complete checklist about two weeks ago and was curious if anyone else has heard anything from the school?? Good luck to all of you!!!
Yeah I was in the same place - my last 60 in undergrad weren't perfect but I made up for it with 6 pre-req courses I took at a community college which prob increased my GPA a bit (~20 more units) but not enough to put me at a 4.0 like a lot of people. The interview probably put me over the edge like you...
Are you planning to just work as a bedside RN after we're done? The focus on the program is leadership and there's not that many CNL positions out there so most likely we'll all be regular RNs for a bit. I'm planning on just working as an ICU nurse for a year or two after graduation and then reapply to CSUF's anethesia program or get a Ph.D. I'm not TOO excited that I got in - nursing school is going to be a lot of work and my goal will take probably 3-5 years after we graduate from the MSN program. But I guess I'm just happy that I don't have to work for a while
I'm sorry, I should've been more clear. For ME, personally, I felt that I was a borderline applicant, so I believe that the interview helped me. I know that the interview was worth 15%, so I think this pushed me over the edge. We've all applied to many programs so I'm sure spots will open up! Gooood luck guys!!!
Just thought I would share that I too am on the alternate list...sure seems like more than 15... I think 15 is wishful thinking. I do however remember a comment at the interview where they stated that the alternate place is not a bad place to be because nearly all students made it in last year. I bombed my interview. After waiting about three hours for my one-on-one interview I was all talked out and hungry! It was almost 5pm and when u put girls in a small room together, yes we will talk and talk and talk. I feel like such a fool doing so bad on the one place I felt I would really shine. Well, good luck to u all. I am so scared that I won't be accepted. Don't be a fool like me and put all your eggs in one basket and concentrate on your interview instaed of being social for hours on end. Sorry had to vent. =)
Can anyone who got accepted or on the alternate list let me know how many points you had? I emailed to see if I could find out what the average number of points was so that I could compare my application to see how competetive I was, she told me that it is not predetermined ahead of time and that it varies from year to year. I just want to see if I was waaaaayyyyy off, or just barely missed out so I know whether or not to try again next year.
Hi Leah:
I received an acceptance letter last week. Here are my stats:
Last 60 Semester/90 Quarter GPA: 3.84, B.S. Psych
Pre req's: all A's so far. Microbio in progress.
I'm an LA county resident (no bonus for OC/SB), didn't graduate from CSUF (so no bonus).
0 points for health care and volunteer.
I was really surprised since I thought I bombed the interview. I wasn't nearly as outspoken as many of the other interviewees (so I thought that was a mark against me for lack of leadership skills). Everyone else was really passionate, whereas I was pretty low key. I tried my best to be genuine and to answer all questions truthfully. Everyone else in my group seemed to have lots of healthcare experience (whereas I have very little exposure to healthcare). I still cant' believe I got in! So far I've applied to UCLA, CSUF, CSULB, and CSUDH. Rejected by UCLA, still waiting to hear back from LB and DH. I'll have a difficult time turning down DH if I get accepted since their program is only 20 months, but Fullerton is a much better school....I don't think I'll hear back from LB before the deadline to accept...so I think I'm prob going to stick with Fullerton.
My impression is that LB is better ranked and can be flexible in allowing students to enter the NP program after BSN, but Fullerton offers better aid package because it is a Masters program and not a 5th year postbac like LB. In any case I'm hoping to apply to Fullerton's anesthesia program after graduation so lack of NP is not a dealbreaker. Still, 36 months is a little excessive for the CNL cert....I wonder if there's any way to complete it sooner.
Leah & Candyapple,
B.S. Kinesiology, option exercise science
Last 60 units : 3.9 (?? I have 2 B's in the last 60 units so I'm guessing it's around a 3.9)
Orange county resident, didn't graduate from csuf
a little over 100 hours as an intern in cardiology dep. at a local hospital
I felt that my interview went really well. The questions were extremely straight forward and I basically had an idea of what she was going to ask. Try and figure out a little bit about the person who is interviewing you! I found out that she likes bball so we ended up talking about march madness during the interview!
I hate to say it, but another one on the alternate list. Did anyone interviewed not make it on the alternate list? This is seeming like a very long alternate list, despite what they said at the interviews.
Quick question for those that did get accepted. If you do accept admission, is it a full commitment, or once those that get accepted to CSULB and decide to go there instead of CSUF is it possible, just a matter of notifying the nursing dept that you changed your mind? Just curious. Really hoping and praying that those of us on the alternate list have a chance!
I asked whether it was a CNL certification program during the interview and she said it wasn't. She said that you would have to take extra classes. Its not a CNL program guys...even though its a nursing leadership concentration...its just a general masters. I'm sure you will get close to a CNL when you are finished but I would ask her personally if that is something you are really interested in. Did you guys hear the same thing when she commented on my question that were on the same interview day?
