CSN RN Fall 2014

Published

Hello All! So the time has come for a new thread for all of us applying for fall 2014. Anyone applying in March?

I know the full-time program is a lot of work and CSN recommend not working. I have to work! Can you tell me how many hours a week did you spend studying or preparing on average? I have a very supporting husband and 2 kids at school. My days are free to study because my job is at night. I think I can make it work but I am scared...

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms:-))

CSN is pretty adamant with their opinion about not working but some people have to otherwise their home wouldn't function. I can't really say how many hours I spend studying each week, since every week is different. In 1st semester I did work on Fri-Sun most weeks and it was very hard for me. I need to write to learn so it's very time consuming. Reading doesn't do much for me. Now I still have my job but I work very limited hours during the semester and I'm spend most of my free time studying since I'm not working. I need to occupy my time somehow! I currently have class Mon-Wed so I spend most of the time Thurs-Sun studying and preparing for clinical (which is sometimes more time consuming than studying for exams!). I am lucky enough to not have to work now because I busted my butt for many years before nursing school working 2 jobs (70+ hours/ week) and was able to save up. I did this while completing my pre req's and I'm not sure if I actually slept during those years. I don't recommend it. But I'm getting older now and I can't hang like the youngin's anymore haha! Unfortunately I don't have anyone to support me, just myself, so eventually the money will run out. I'm hoping to be working as an RN before that day comes. I also don't qualify for financial aid because I have a job.

My advice would be to make up a calendar each week with what you need to do and stick to it. Add in family obligations as well. Don't neglect them! Make time for them! It's really hard to plan very far in advance since each week is different. I would also take a few days off from work before each exam to focus on studying.

Hello! Anyone else accepted to the extended track??? I'm excited but also a bit nervous!

I am in the extended track as well, TheresaAnderson. Is there anything helpful you learned when you picked up your packet on the 8th? I missed it, but did get mine in the mail. I'm excited and a lot nervous. Looking forward to our 1st orientation!!!

I just finished semester 1 with a kid and fulltime job and it was hard, but doable. If you find it it too much, sometimes they have room after sem 1 where you can transfer across to extended track. Extended track and fulltime are the same in semester 1...but I couldn't imagine having 2 clinical sessions (fulltime) and all the work it entails like in sem 2. Make it through sem 1 and work your options. Good luck!

I just want to tell y'all about the reentry program across from financial aid. They ended up paying for all my books and supplies and test fees. It doesn't matter if you have a job or are single or anything like that. If you are in the nursing program, then they will help you. They even paid money towards my tuition.

I got accepted for CSN's program for this fall but I turned it down in favor for Roseman. If only they offered a BSN instead of an ADN. I wish you all the best of luck though!

Thanks for your input. Helps to know someone manage to do it:-))

Congratulations! No call for me but I guess theres still a chance if I go to the next orientation.

Well I also did get a call, but they told me that I wasn't part of the people who got into the regular track. But I am currently on top of the list to be eligible for the regular track in case someone else drops. But the thing is that there are no alternates for the part time/extended track and they told me that I could be in it.

What do you guys think? Should I go ahead and take it? Or just wait for another person to drop so I could be in the regular track? One of the things I consider is that if I do accept the part-time, I could just go ahead and transfer to full-time after the first semester, but only if other people drop or fail the program. But that is no guarantee. But at the same time, there is also no guarantee that people will drop before the semester starts so I could take their spot for the full-time track.

What do you guys think? If you guys are in my shoes, would you take it? Or would you wait?

I need your answers by tomorrow. Thanks guys! I appreciate the help!
