CSN RN Fall 2014

Published

Hello All! So the time has come for a new thread for all of us applying for fall 2014. Anyone applying in March?

So you're first in the line of alternates for full time and part time?

yeah i guess so if you put it that way. the thing is i dont think there are any more alternates for the part time, if i understood it correctly.

I would let them know that you're interested in either full time or part time, whichever is available first. First semester is the same classes whether you're full time or part time and I'm fairly certain that if you end up in part time you can switch to full time without any issues. I knew of 5 people out of about 124 that started in my group that were gone by week 3 and another 2 or 3 that failed by the end of the semester and I didn't know that many people in first semester. A few also switched from full time to part time as well. What I'm saying is that I'm sure there will be plenty of spots available to switch into full time at the end of first semester.

well the thing is if i do tell them that i wanna take the part time, then i won't be eligible for the full time anymore once it opens up. But you really made some good points there. I guess I would just go ahead and take the part time and hopefully be able to switch to full time after first semester! thank you so much! :)

No problem! Good luck! :)

Christina,

do you know where we can get more info for the scholarships offered through the health science school at?

Christina,

I don't know. Sorry! I've only applied for aid through FAFSA (and I've always been denied for scholarships/grants :/)

Hi everyone!

Congrats to everyone who got in to the program (and good luck to the alternates)! So much stuff to do before the next orientation. What option did everyone choose for their classes? Also, is anyone else taking the toolbox class over the summer? I am taking the 12:30-2PM class for toolbox and chose option #13.

Question. Does anyone else remember who to contact if we want to waive the excess credit fees for classes?

Hope you all have a wonderful ans safe memorial weekend! :)

Seashelseas,

i chose option 16. And am also taking the toolbox class at 8 to 9:30 but going to email her and see if I can do the 10 am one.

What are they talking about the excess credit fees? I don't remember her name. I'm sure if you call the office they can direct you to the correct person.

Hi normitac86!

Hope you are doing well! I wish I was more of an early bird for the morning classes but my brain always fights it.. Surviving that early clinical course will be fun :dead:

Just to clarify for other students that may read this: I sent an e-mail to the office today and they were nice enough to send me an Excess Credit Fee Appeal form via attachment. Here are some of the instructions:

Your letter should:

(1) Request an appeal

(2) Why you have too many credits (example previous degree, dual-enrollment w/ high school and college, or change programs)

(3) How many credits you will need to graduate

She suggested to attach your nursing acceptance letter, unofficial transcript, transfer credit report (if any)and any previous degree documentation to the form. You can get the waiver form at the Office of the Registrar (and that is also where you will have to return your completed appeal).

If any other questions, the Office of the Registrar is definitely the place to ask.

Something to keep in mind regarding the excess credit fee: if you have graduated from CSN already, all of those credits do not apply to your total number when they are figuring the excess credit fee. This is per registration. Right now I have about 115 credits and my ADN degree is 72 credits x 1.5 = 108 so I definitely should be assessed the fee BUT since I graduated with a dental assisting certificate back in '08 that takes about 35 credits out of the picture. I will also be graduating at the end of the summer with an associates of general studies degree which is about 60 credits. Once I get my ADN at the end of the year I will probably have near zero credits for them to factor and I can continue to take classes at CSN for a while at a reasonable price. I never did the appeal and never had a problem. I wouldn't call it a loophole but it's definitely easier than worrying about the appeal. According to registration, if you have graduated from CSN in the past and you do have >150% of the credits for your declared major you should NOT pay the fee. I chose the associates of general studies degree because I only need 3 more classes (which I'm taking online over the summer) in order to get it. I don't plan on utilizing it for anything/transferring anywhere but it's helping to avoid paying the fee. I would talk to a counselor to see if you might be close to or have enough credits for any degree. Even if it's unrelated to your major.

Is the Excess Credit Fee Appeal Form for FAFSA ?
