CSN RN Fall 2014

Published

Hello All! So the time has come for a new thread for all of us applying for fall 2014. Anyone applying in March?

Rella_ if u haven't bought any books yet make sure you check amazon for the extra books and those recommended. I just saved some money doing that.

Christina731 time seems like it's on crack! It's insane

Does anyone know if the TB test has to be 1 step or 2 steps?

Make sure you pay attention to the dates for your 2 step TB. You will have to get a new 1 step every year as long as it's before the 1 year expiration of the 2 step. For example, if you got a 2 step on January 1, you must have a 1 step read on or before December 31. If you wait until it expires you have to get another 2 step again. Just an FYI to save you some time, it's a pain to have to go in 4 times for a 2 step (2 administrations and 2 readings).

Hey everyone! Books are in! I just got mines today!

I would like to know where to find cheap health insurance as well, if anyone knows... I am currently under my grandmother's, but she might be retiring soon.

For the vaccinations, is it required to have the Hep B #3 series due by Aug 21st? Or is this a vaccine that can be administered later in the semester?

I got my Hep B #2 series at the end of May, and Hep B #1 series when I was about fifteen (years ago). The health district wasn't particularly helpful in explaining why I couldn't receive the Hep B #3 series before October 29th, 2014.

From http://www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/HBV/HBVfaq.htm#recctbl :

"The vaccination schedule most often used for children and adults is 3 intramuscular injections, the second and third doses administered 1 and 6 months, respectively, after the first dose."

So they don't seem to be correct. Their date of the 3rd dose being in October would only apply if you got the first dose in April '14. You got it long before that so I don't see why they won't give you #3 now. I would call them and ask again. But you should still be ok to start the program, usually they only require documentation on the first 2 just in case you needed to start the series as soon as you were accepted. There wouldn't have been enough time if that were the case, which it is not for you.

Just a question, your post indicated that you received the #1 SERIES when you were 15. Are you saying that you received one dose at that time or one series (of 3) at that time? Because if your case is the latter then you likely will not need anything at this time except documentation.

I went to the student government couple weeks ago and got a ejsmith card. You can just go to the Home - EJSmith, to save you some time from going there, and apply online. The cheapest one that they have is around $67 plus a one time $25 fee for students.

Is that $67/month or per semester?

Per month. Do we need a lab coat for 1st semester?
