CSN RN Fall 2014

Published

Hello All! So the time has come for a new thread for all of us applying for fall 2014. Anyone applying in March?

Hello everyone,

First of all Congratulations to everyone who was accepted in the program!! I was enrolled in the Full time program for 1 semester at CSN but I decided to transfer to NSC School of Nursing instead

Christina, Thank you so much for all of the helpful information.

I received the #1 series when I was 15, meaning that I received only one dose at that time (at least, according to their records). I will need to get the third shot. I called at the Health District and they also said there must be a mix-up in regard to why I can't get the third shot sooner. Regardless, it is a relief to know I don't need it until second semester. I would just prefer to get it out of the way ASAP.

ElTigreChino, Thank you for the information! Really appreciate it!

Per month. Do we need a lab coat for 1st semester?

Thanks! No, you don't need a lab coat. I would get 2 sets of uniforms though. You will need to go to your clinical site to pick your patient info a day or 2 in advance and it would suck to have to do laundry in between.

Yeah I would definitely get it out of the way now. It will be one less thing that you have to show proof for down the road.

Christina731,

for our first 3 clinicals I know we will do the program ACE..... Is that held on campus or somewhere specific?

My ace was held on campus in the regular nursing labs but some are held at the cheyenne campus, the sahara west campus or elsewhere. There are many students to accommodate and sometimes you have to go elsewhere.

Well it's time to buy books for the upcoming semester. Does anyone remember what books or guides were recommended for pharmacology? Or what books we would need or don't need from the list of the recommended books they gave us? Thank you for your help :)

I've never found any use in the recommended books but if you feel the need to supplement your learning please buy a used and/or old edition. I bought some recommended study guides in 1st semester and I ended up selling them back because I never used them. You have enough to worry about with the required reading, PowerPoints and supplemental stuff they make you read. I wouldn't want I read anything more unless I REALLY don't understand a topic. In that case I usually just seek help from the instructor, my classmates or the internet.

thank you for your advise Christina731. I would rather not spend more more than I have too. Do you have any recommendations for flash cards? I know making your own is better but I also like to combine the ones I make with bought one.

No problem :) for flash cards I really prefer to make my own with regular old 3x5 notecards. Writing really helps me learn and it's much cheaper that way (I'm a broke student who is old school haha). I've made thousands of handwritten flash cards and use them all the time. I hole punch them and put what I'm currently studying in a binder ring to throw in my purse to study whenever I have a minute. I bought the "Pharm Phlash" set and really didn't like them because I found myself wanting to write on them to add info.

Christina, do we need the online stuff from evolve and Pearson neighborhood? I bought a couple of secondhand books and I was wondering if we need the access codes
