crappy nurses day

They've changed our week into a day here.

and our gift is a book on nursing theory. No beach towel, no beer cooler-we got a beer tote with bottle opener one year-that was the bomb, no umbrella, no tote bag that says happey nurses week. This saddens me.

I don't want a book on nursing theory.

I want some icecream, and a big banner that says Happy Nurses week.

Everyone else gets a banner-Theres resp. week, lab week, pharm week, I remember seeing these banners just up a few weeks ago. *** is up with that. I know times are tough. but how much does it cost to put a freaken banner up. and have the administrater come around saying "thanks for doing a good job"

Anybody want a book on nursing theory ?

I would also maybe dislike the gift...maybe their budget was tighter this year though?

And my department, specifically, eliminated nurses week b/c it was too expensive. So try getting nothing...LOL.

I'll say it's the thought that counts and duck flying objects...........haha. I don't think that though, I agree with you. If I want a book on nursing theory, I'll buy one. To me, that's almost a slap in the face, like rather than celebrating nurses, they feel the need to remind you of something, KWIM?

What a shame, I'm sorry frann.

I could totally use the book on nursing theory!!! LOL... I am in 3rd semester so it might help! :)

Sorry to hear about the crappy nurses day... I noticed at my work that all that was done was an email sent out from some big wig no one ever heard of saying "thanks to all the nursing staff" and I think they got cookies. I did not see any banners or anything else.... bummer, cuz those nurses work their patooties off and deserve some recognition.

Seriously, I bet if you gave that book to a nursing student it would make their day! :)

btw, from my experience BUYING all those nursing theory books.. they are NOT cheap!!!! seems like they could have spent that money on something you might enjoy!!

Somehow they've had money for other departments' "weeks" or "days" (even since the budget crunch) but when it comes to nursing, we're told that the thanks from our patients is our "greatest gift." Whatever...

Well - I did not work today but my Bestfriend called me and wished me a Happy Nurses Day-and it made my day so I also pass it to you :heartbeat I also don't want the book. Suggestion leave it in the cafiteria for someone who wants it.

It is sad, to work so hard, often short staffed, missing lunch breaks, eating in the Med room, or wherever you can, then not to be recognized or appreciated, on Nurses Day, in a way that rejuvenates you, is indeed, disappointing to put it mildly. Do they still allow pitch-ins? Sometimes you have to celebrate, and recognize one another.

I guess I shouldn't complain.

I mean last year we really had a whole week, now its a day.

Our unit does buy us lunch on nurses day (we're a fairly small unit)

I'll give my book out to next nursing student I see-thats a good idea. I wonder who's idea it was to get the books, probably some admin that wears cute shoes that has no idea what nurses do.

Hey Frann--no thanks to the offer of a nursing theory book. Nice of you to offer, however! :D We didn't get a banner but we got a homemade breakfast and a colorful pin to wear that talked about pride in nursing......

Our Nurses made out good this year and last year and the years before. Seems they have the money for them at the hospital and not the Nurse Aides. They got shirts, breakfast wed, plus fingerfoods everyday last week. The Day shift WAS treated better then the night shift. Plus a card.

The aides last year got a gait belt and a candybar "whoopie". I do not know about the aides who work with most of you but the aides who work where I am bust their A$$ every day. They get no thanks.

Plus they do not even get their own week like everyone else, they are now lumped in hospital week. But Lab gets their own week, maintance, housekeeping ect does also, but the aides get stuck every time.

So happy Nurses day, now you know sadly how the"less important" feel untill they are needed, and then it is non stop, "I need you too.......", if you do not like the book as 1 person said, please donate to a Nursing Student, it might make their day, and and it might mean more coming from from one RN to a future another. (free or not) just my 2 cents.

Frann,

Happy "CRAPPY" Nurses Day , then ?!?

Maybe better tomorrow :)
