So I'm failing Human Anatomy. I'm at a 79 in the class, and everyone knows that this is the most important prerequisite for Nursing school. I'm thinking of withdrawing from the class. However, that automatically withdraws my application from the admissions process.
I'm consistently below the average, and I don't know what to do. Right now, my prerequisite GPA is at a 3.75. If I get a C, it will put me below the average accepted prerequisite gpa, which is a 3.68.
I'm thinking of withdrawing or changing to major, to what, I have no clue.
What should I do?

Why can't you withdraw and reapply next term?
Next term? More like next year. My school only accepts nursing students once a year, so I would have to wait a whole 'nother year before having a chance to get into Nursing school.
That is a whole year to study anatomy. Don't know what to tell you if you can't find other programs to apply to. Maybe you should just dig in and hope for some divine assistance on the final. Best wishes.

Wait, Is 79 failing for your A&P course? Do you still have more exams left. If your school uses the standard grading system and you still have other exams or finals, you are really close to a B so I would not withdraw. If you do well on the Final, you can pull of a B. If you don't think you can pull of the B then maybe withdrawing is the better option. Just know that some places do consider Ws, so if you have a chance to make a B, I would do that over withdrawing.

An average is just that…an average. That means the program accepts people a little below the average and some above the average. I would complete the course. You may very well get in. You don’t know. Also, if you retake a course at your school, will the highest grade be the one calculated in your GPA? If so, you have nothing to lose.

I wouldn't withdraw, unless you know the kind of people the nursing school accepts. If they accept only the best of the best, mainly people with As then I would drop out. If you think you can get a B then stay.
I would also talk to your teacher. Sometimes if you explain yourself and show that you care about your grade, and you pull a 79 she/he mght just bump it up to a B.
It's what I call "sympathy points" lol.
Good luck.

In the grand scheme of life a year is not that long. I would dig in and try my best to pull out a B. If you end up with a C I guess you'll have to evaluate if it's worth it to you to wait and reapply.

If you truly want to be a nurse then you have two options:
1) Withdraw and retake. Yes, you might have to wait another year. If you really want to be a nurse, then it will be worth it in the end. Who is to say you will get in this time regardless of GPA?
2) Keep trying to keep your head above water and figure out a way to increase your percentage. Talk to your Professor or other students. What is it that you are having a hard time grasping?
I asked the head of the nursing dept at my school why they chose to base admissions on a lottery system. She said, "A 4.0 in your pre-reqs does not mean you will be a good nurse. Also, some people have families, jobs, and lives and it might be impossible for them to get a 4.0."
Dont beat yourself up too much. Im sure it will all work out in the end. : )

True it would stink to have to wait another year, but that woul be plenty of time to really figure out the human anatomy stuff. You could even use your current syllabus as astudy guide, even if it isn't the same next year.
Just a though...

I am a pre nursing student. I graduated from Dental Hygiene school when I was 21 years old - back then my GPA was too embarrassing to mention - but not a 3 point anything - more like a 2 point whatever. Now I have a 4 point something after taking all my sciences a second time - 19 years later. I would say, or ask, if you are committed to Nursing ? I'm sure all the classes will be a challenge. If you really want Nursing - take the class again - talk to your instructor about tips to help you study - look into tutoring. For me I am older and I put the time in to study that I never did when I was younger. Plus, I try different strageties to study - I have a voice recorder I bought for 30 bucks and I record things and play them while I am eating or driving. I was terrified about learning the arteries and veins - overwhelming. But I broke each body area into smaller easier to tackle segments and used colored markers to draw the pathway of each vein and nerve. I am not smart with school but I can get an A or minimally a B if I push out all the stops. You can too - take the class again - it's a small hill to have to climb. Don't get too down on yourself.
