Fauci simply was a guy trying to do his job with integrity while a crazy liar was in power. Birx was hired by the Trump team to coordinate federal pandemic response. It really was unprecedented. The CDC was undermined, sidelined, and maligned in a way that has never happened before. Materials were put on the CDC website that weren’t written by the CDC. I would compare that to someone writing graffiti on a national monument, except as someone pointed out to me [at least in that case] everyone knows it’s graffiti. I think it’ll take some time for the trust in the CDC to be regained.
On the other hand, the 20 000 professionals at the CDC continued to do really important work through the pandemic. And Americans, by and large, went to the CDC for information—they had more than two billion hits on their website. But because the CDC wasn’t able to speak directly to the American people from the podium, a lot of things got misunderstood or misinterpreted. The CDC wasn’t able to say when it was changing guidance and why, and whether that was a valid reason. They weren’t able to answer very important questions about things that had gone wrong. There’s a lot of catching up to be done now, but I’m optimistic that we’re on a much better route to progress.
Until we confront the root of the problem with the American pandemic response (Trump the Liar and a population willing to believe lies) we'll never fix it. If we ignore this phenomenon, lies will win, the republic will be lost.

I think we can hold Trump accountable for far too many things to even list, including his handling of the pandemic. However, Fauci and Birx are adults and know better so we can still hold them accountable for their lack of action too. Both had the means to get on MSM, Twitter, facebook, whatever and warn the public with the truth. Instead, they remained silent or spoke in coded context because they didn't want to hurt Trump's overgrown feelings. I'm passing blame where it's due. None of them are innocent in this. Trump is guilty of a lot of things but they're the medical professionals. Their goal should have been to protect the public, not Trump from throwing a tantrum. And I'm so disappointed in WHO and CDC. I can't take them serious anymore.

Vaccine hesitancy and vaccine disinformation is a problem globally. American partisan politics may have had an impact in the U.S. but it doesn’t explain the same phenomenon being seen worldwide. We have anti-vaxxers on all continents, even though they appear to be somewhat unevenly distributed.

There were Chinese scientists and others who were speaking about what they knew and witnessed, some of which "disappeared" soon after. Everyone gets that the Communist Chinese Gov lies so this should have been investigated and not covered up. The WHO also played a large part and also lied about the covid info. When people (also globally) see all the train wreck that the pandemic has become because of the politicization and actual real information being censored and cancelled than of course people have reservations about the vaccine. People should be allowed to hear and see ALL info (not just what some "fact checker" thinks) and make up their own minds. When people only get half the story (and know it) why would they believe it as fact! I know people of all political persuasions who are hesitant about getting the vaccine because of all the political BS. I believe the vaccine incentives are just to push past a threshold if I am not mistaken. The people who are never going to vaccinate will not be persuaded by a coupon. Those folks are too far gone. Let's be frank, many people (including heathcare workers) were threated by losing their jobs in order to get in full compliance to work. So if a chance for attending a Superbowl or a coupon for some nuggets motivates the teens for a cheap date night including a Covid 19 vaccine, let's be thankful that some people took up the offer, when otherwise would have never given it a passing thought (however the rhetoric for many of these incentives glorify unhealthy lifestyle, furthering the pressure of the healthcare system, but that is another day). Many incarcerated, homeless, transient, high-risk individuals in the margins of our communities (including elementary kids) will never have the opportunity to take one, by no fault of their own. I am so glad the vaccine is available (in some) parts of the US, however many do not have the privilege. We are blessed as healthcare workers, however; I think at times our tone for the masses loses sight of the little gains we do make. We are almost there, let's keep the fight, to keep down the census.
While some are heaping blame on Fauci and Birx, how about Dr. Redfield, head of the CDC, and Dr. Stephen Hahn, head of the FDA? They did nothing to stand up to the former guy. Don't forget Dr. Brent Giroir, who supposedly led testing, and made sure that professional sports teams had easier access to tests than the public.

First of all, when you refer to the vaccines as ”Fauxvid” vaccine it’s hard to believe that you actually are a healthcare professional. Even those nurses who have expressed concern or fear about the vaccines here on AN, realize that the virus and the morbidity and mortality it causes is very real. The pandemic is real.
According to what kind of poor logic does incentives prove that vaccines are unnecessary? Are you of the opinion that 100% of the population will always make intelligent, educated and healthy decisions if they are left to their own devices? I think we both know that’s not the case.
Of course no other vaccine has ever been ”pushed” like this. Unless you are over a hundred years old, this is the worst pandemic you’ve experienced in your lifetime. We should all be grateful that we got access to effective vaccines a mere year after the virus was discovered and started spreading and wreacking havoc across the globe.
