Could you see yourself being anything else besides a nurse?

If you were to pick another profession or if nursing didn't work out, what other professions can you see yourself doing? Or is nursing the only thing you can envision.. I know many people who say "they could never imagine doing anything else.

Maybe a train conductor for MTA or Port Authority.

I could also see myself driving public transportation aka the bus.

The third option.....finding a sugar daddy.

I'm really getting a kick out of some of these hahaha í ½í¸…í ½í¸…... Keep them coming

I decided to pursue nursing because I love science, critical thinking and really enjoy helping and advocating for people to become healthier and live healthier but sometimes humans upset me because they can be so ungrateful and just down right mean.

However I have always said if I had to hit the reset button I would have went to Veterinary school and became a veterinarian. I LOVE animals (I currently have two dogs and two guinea pigs ) but that ship has sailed. :(

I don't think I could see myself doing anything else besides nursing. In addition to my BSN, I also have a BS, and I had a career in research for a while (hated it). If I wasn't doing nursing, I would be a SAHM (realistic goal). It's not a "career," but its still work :-)

I have been a nurse for such a long time, that I can't imagine being anything else. Of course, through out my career I have often thought other jobs would be less stressful. I have always been crafty and love to create works of art, but that doesn't pay the bills. Now that I am in a different aspect of nursing, not bedside care I enjoy nursing more then ever.

There actually is something I would like to do..I would love to nurture people with food as medicine. As in having a retreat in a beautiful place, surround my clients in an organic environment and indulge them with real nutrient dense foods.

Sadly, I speak to nurses every day who wish they were doing something else. Mostly, these are nurses who have been in the profession for a number of years. Sadly, these experienced and knowledgeable nurses feel under undermined by the those who are in management and administration. They feel like they are expendable. They feel encased in a job with no opportunity to make a difference. Essentially, hospital managements have goals that are not always in line with what is best for nursing. There is a severe disconnect between the "Queen bee and the workers". In fact, many experienced nurses are burned out by overwork and under compensation. Compensation also means, basic respect for what they have to offer.

Add to this: when asked, "What would you like to do if you quit nursing/" they may have an idea of what they want to do, but they have no idea how to transition out of nursing into a profession they would love. Face it, nursing pays well and nurses own homes, have families who depend on their wages, and economic responsibilities on par with what they make as a nurse. When you start a new profession, your pay basically drops significantly. Add to this the desire of employers to hire experienced help commiserate with the job a nurse may desire and it may seem almost impossible to move out of nursing.

I definitely imagine doing something else. Sales would be something I would love to do. A good sales person can make tons of money. Not only that, a good salesman is his own boss in many respects in that, when working on commission, they have the sky as the limit. Also, and this is important.....a good sales person is a gift to others. A good sales person HELPS people to obtain a needed service at a fair price. They are in a position to assist and help others while enriching their own lives.

oh, you are so right!!! You are only limited by your imagination!!!

I think my ideal life would be hobby farmer of some sort. Run it in the day, live off my own land, go to things like farmer's markets to sell the veggies that I grew and the meat that I raised. Some day...

How funny! And how wonderful to have such a love of life!!

Absolutely! Even though I am VERY happy in nursing school, and have zero doubts about my choice, there are tons of other things I would do in another life or might take a crack at for my own enrichment (on the side) later in life when I'm established. My unattainable dream would be to become an archaeologist, but that is something I would not be able to fully commit to having a family. I would also like to own a small bakery possibly at some point, and might want to grow specialty gourmet small crops on my land later, like truffles or a specialty hop strain. Through my life centers on nursing, I have extremely diverse interest and can see adding to it t some point :)

I love nursing and I honestly couldn't see myself doing anything else or getting the fulfillment I get now from what I do. I would like to get a stress free side job though for my other interests that wouldn't necessarily pay my bills. I've always loved doing graphic design, painting, crafts, and I have even thought about interior design. Maybe someday but right now I'm happy with my career choice. 😊
