I'm a little concerned at the moment. I graduated Excelsior's program and finally got my NY license in March. I am already enrolled in my online RN to BSN at Louisville in the fall. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am planning to move from New York to Maryland to be closer to family and friends at the end of this Summer. I have scouted around Virginia's nursing jobs (since Maryland doesn't accept EC's program) and took an interest in some of their RN Residencies. HOWEVER, I am terrified that they won't hire anyone who A) Has no experience or B) Attended Excelsior due to it's lack of clinical elements. I have been a paramedic in NYC for over a decade and can certainly hold my own in emergencies and I'm certainly used to stressful environments, but I have a feeling that won't mean much once I get down there.
What should I do? Just apply to places and pray? And advice is appreciated.

Exactly...thus the ambiguous language in the reply of "...as long as you meet all of the other requirements" ?

Illinois does. This is from the Illinois BON:
QuoteThe Illinois Board of Nursing does not allow licensure by examination for Excelsior graduates. Graduates are eligible to apply for licensure only by endorsement. Contact the Illinois Board of Nursing for instructions on applying for RN licensure by endorsement.
This doesn’t say that.

What this says is that IL doesn’t give NCLEX to Excelsior grads. It doesn’t say they will necessarily GRANT licensure by endorsement from a state that does test Excelsior grads, though it does say you can apply subject to instructions (which are not specified, and I don’t know what they are). For example, they may require documents of additional coursework or clinical hours. This is from their website, though:
“Out-of-state endorsement candidates need license verification from their state(s) of licensure. This includes the current state, the original state if different, and any other state in which the nurse has practiced within the most recent five years. NCLEX-RN results may be provided by the state of original licensure or by the testing company itself. Endorsement candidates may be issued a temporary license so that they can begin work before all paper work is processed. The standard endorsement application fee is $50; an applicant pays $75 if requesting a temporary license.
“Graduates of programs that did not provide clinical practice concurrent or coordinated with nursing theory (I.e. correspondence courses) are eligible only if one of the following conditions is met: The candidate has actively practiced nursing for at least two full years while licensed in another jurisdiction or has since completed a graduate program that did include concurrent practice. The Illinois Board has specific requirements for coordinated practice as it applies to nursing education. There is an employment verification form in the application packet to be used by nurses who have practiced for two years following a nursing school experience that the Board deems “unapproved”. Yes, that is what it stated in the Illinois NPA and on the Excelsior site;

Yes, this is by endorsement

If you receive your BSN at (Drexel and Louisville) you would be allowed to take the NCLEX or endorse into MD and be licensed as long as you meet all of the other requirements."
But (maybe I'm confused here) Drexel / Louisville is NOT the degree that qualified you for NCLEX. Excelsior is- and that will not get you the MD license you desire. The BON answer is not addressing your situation.
Precisely. I was under the impression that the OP had already taken NCLEX based on passing Excelsior. The MD BON may not be clear on that... but they will be when the paperwork comes in.
I was also under the impression that the OP planned to move immediately, whereas the IL statute says (among other things) they would require 2 years of PRACTICE to consider endorsement. don’t know if MD has similar restrictions or requirements.
I’ll be interested to hear from the OP as to how it works out.
MD is a no-go for licensure by exam or by endorsement at the moment. For a period of time they would allow licensure by endorsement with 1000 hours of RN practice, but they closed that option some years ago. Illinois will license EC grads, I think they might just look for some years of experience. I am an EC grad, 2008; I endorsed my license into IL for an online teaching position in 2017. No issues getting licensed there. I am licensed in some of the "difficult" EC states: IL, WA, GA. Not letting those expire, LOL.

Yes, I saw that. I'm in the process of endorsing into Washington, D.C. as well. Especially if Virginia re-instates the clinical hours requirement they used to have that they suspended for the pandemic. I see a lot of opportunities in D.C. and it's closer to where I'm looking to move. We'll see what happens. I was actually checking out Inova Fairfax this afternoon.
