I've been a lurker for awhile, and I know that this post has been brought up 1-2 times in the last 2 years that I've been an RN. So... you grouchy old farts that would rather I'd revive an old post can just stuff a sock in it. I want to gauge opinions based on our CURRENT situation after the shooting yesterday in San Bernadino, CA.
Truth be told, One single caregiver with a concealed carry permit could have shut this couple down before they hit 14 fatalities.
I plan on getting my CC in January, but I know as an RN, should my handgun be discovered, I'll probably lose my license. It will stay in my car when I am at work. If someone wants to carry out mayhem at my workplace, we are ALL sitting ducks. It is not ok or fair. What are your thoughts?
Kevin Swanson certainly advocates for it ... and, as one who actively promoted the kill-the-gays bill in Uganda, has demonstrated that he believes in getting the government to perform his executions for him.Now ... will someone please explain to me what Islamaphobia has to do with health caregivers carrying concealed weapons on the job?
Nothing!
Except maybe trying to scare people in to CC?
Using your type of logic police should not have guns because if they miss a shot they will shoot someone by accident.
I didn't say you shouldn't have a gun. I was asking if you would think about or even care whether one of the 11 shots you're firing inside a hospital room strikes an unintended target. Like say, someone in the next room.
Why does every conversation turn into somebody's gonna take my guns away?
Once again you try to compare the actions of a thousand years ago with the actions of today.2015.12.08 (Kandahar, Afghanistan) - Nine civilians are killed when Taliban suicide bombers storm an airfield.
2015.12.08 (Tulunan, Philippines) - Three villagers are shot dead by Moro Islamists.
2015.12.07 (Tripoli, Libya) - Sharia advocates behead two men for 'sorcery' at a public event.
2015.12.06 (Aden, Yemen) - A suicide car bomber turns seven 'apostates' into rubble.
2015.12.05 (Koulfoua, Chad) - Three female suicide bombers massacre twenty-seven patrons at a local market.
2015.12.04 (Ramadi, Iraq) - Five suicide car bombers take out over two dozen Iraqis.

Your turn to list all the recent Christian "atrocities".
Andy, I did list "so called Christians" who performed violent acts, that killed those who disagreed with their thinking. Cases in point were the bombings of women's services centers, that among other health care options, do perform abortions. The killings of doctors, who among their other duties, do perform abortions, such as Drs. Tiller and Stempian, (?sp) one killed at a church service the other in his home. Add to those atrocities, the recent killings at a Planned Parenthood center in Colorado. In Colorado, the perpetrator, a so called "Christian," yelled, "No more sale of baby parts." Planned Parenthood does not "sell" anything. They do allow women to donate the fetal tissue. This tissue must be preserved and transported, and that is where the cost is incurred. There are no "sales" of any tissue. This is fetal tissue, there are no "baby parts" being sold."
Universal background checks and outlawing all gun sales are two very different things. Currently, if you're not legally allowed to purchase a gun and therefore would fail a background check, your options for purchasing a gun aren't particularly limited, all you have to do is not buy from an FFL, which is pretty easy to do using various methods of buying from a private seller.
It is currently illegal for a prohibited person to purchase a firearm from a FFL or private party and it is illegal to sell to them whether it is a private party or FFL.
Exactly how does making something illegal more illegal or somehow interjecting backgrounds checks into an already illegal transaction stop illicit behavior?
and you think that you have the right to demand answers from every caregiver you have, as to whether they own guns? I don't think so. You deal with people who have concealed carry weapons all the time- but because they are CONCEALED, you've got no idea. This is the way it's supposed to be. If a workplace were to allow concealed carry, there's no way you're going to get a conceal carry permit holder to just out and declare to you that they're carrying, and you sure as hell don't get to pat them down....... so you'd essentially just have to choose to go elsewhere for care, if that was the case.

A private transfer of a firearm is only illegal when the seller has "reason to believe" that it is illegal for the buyer to posses a firearm, and except in those instances where a background check is required the seller is not required to many any attempt to determine if the buyer can legally purchase a gun.
It's sort of like if speeding was illegal but only when the driver is aware they are speeding based on their speedometer, and speedometers are optional. Obviously that wouldn't make a lot of sense, about as much sense as it makes to allow those who can't legally buy guns to just choose a seller that is under no obligation check if you can own a gun.

I pay a premium for the ammunition for our home defense. It is special frangible ammunition. The rounds are very effective against soft targets like bodies but will break up when contacting hard objects like wallboard. I tested these when I first purchased them and found they would not fully penetrate two layers of sheet rock placed 4 inches apart. However, they ripped apart a plastic gallon water jug.
Yes, I don't want to hit someone in the next room or next house if I miss my target. I own each round I fire. Unlike Police, I will not get a bye if I accidentally shoot an innocent bystander.
Of course you have the right to demand answers to any 'caregiver' that carries a weapon concealed or otherwise - your mind-set is awry and difficult to understand. The supposed 'nurse' who has a very heightened public persona of being a healer of medicine goes against the grain if patients find out they are carrying weapons!

If they carry concealed you won't know. In America we have this thing called the constitution which has a second amendment that allows you to have firearms.
