Commute time to hospital job

Hello everyone. I'm curious to know how far you currently drive from home to your job at the hospital. Thanks.

Specializes in Urgent Care, Oncology.

30-35 minutes to work when I leave between 6 am and 7 am. I never leave later than that because traffic gets too bad.

40-45 minutes to home when I leave between 3 pm and 3:30 pm. 60 minutes when I leave between 5 pm and 5:30 pm.

I have two early days and two late days so I don't mind doing two late days since it is only two.

45-60 minutes depending on traffic. My facility has the technology to allow us to call into unit council and staff meetings from home (and get paid!) which helps a ton.

I giggled at Eris Discordia's response because I also get asked questions like that *ALL* the time. I also frequently get asked on my little overtime shifts "Are you sure you don't want to stay 4 more hours? You drove all this way!"

Specializes in Case manager, float pool, and more.

About 15-20 minutes each way. Most is on the highway.

I only live 5 miles always but it can take as long as an hour depending on traffic. On a slow sunday morning its about 10 minutes

My last job I was based at a hospital that's 5 miles from my house (though not employed by them). On average, it took me 30-45 minutes to get there. When I go to the airport at 4-5am and pass by it, I see that it should take 10 minutes to get there. :)

15 minutes. Enough time to slurp my coffee down and Inhale a breakfast burrito :)

Yes!!! All the bloody time!!!!

Specializes in Geriatrics, Dialysis.

Smaller town, about a mile from work so about 5 minutes. Work is close to a school but my hours are nowhere the schools schedule so that traffic doesn't affect me. Management that comes in around the school start time can be slowed down by parents and school buses those last few blocks. Horrible, I know!

Seriously, I don't know how anybody deals with big city rush hour traffic on a daily basis without losing their minds.

Specializes in ED, psych.
25 minutes. But parking is a nightmare.

Sadly, this. 15 minutes ... but probably another 10 looking for a spot , no matter how I adjust my commute time.

Specializes in IMCU, Oncology.

For almost one year I drove about 45 to 1 hour twice a day too/from work - and depending on traffic, it could be even longer. Since I have an adolescent child at home, this quickly became very inconvenient and I transferred to a clinic 15-20 mins from my home. It depends on life circumstances. I don't want my whole life to be my job, so commuting is not something I am willing to do anymore.

Specializes in Ambulatory Care-Family Medicine.

10 minutes, sometimes 15 if I don't catch the stop lights when they're all green.

Specializes in PACU, Stepdown, Trauma.

Three miles and 10 minutes away... sometimes it takes as long to find parking as it does to get to the hospital!
