Comfort Food After a L o n g Shift

Published

I find myself craving certain meals after an exceptionally long/stressful shift. None of it is ever healthy!! Tonight was one of those nights. It got me thinking... what comfort food do you crave after a difficult shift?

I'll go first.

I LOVE anything with syrup-- pancakes (especially with chocolate chips!!), waffles, and french toast. That syrup melts away all the stress of the day! My other big-time comfort meal is bacon, eggs, and fried tomatoes. I'm not quite sure why it's all breakfast food...

Well I don't mind the bacon butty although give me a good sausage butty and would be better. Tea definitely give that a miss but enjoy a good cuppa coffee :)

Hey, you Canadian and UK folks---speak English please! :jester: (Just teasing---sorry---I could not resist!)

I know that "sarnie" is British slang for sandwich (all those years of watching Britcoms has paid off!) but what is a butty? I looked it up on Google and found some really interesting definitions that probably don't have a lot to do with food!

ETA: Thanks to MeganRN2B, I may never eat anything with portobello mushrooms again! Eeeeeuuuuuuuwwwwwwww! :D

LOL Moogie. "Butty" is a word for sandwich mostly used in the North of England.

It has nothing to do with...erm the posterior regions of human anatomy ;)

I am glad you cleared that one up for me. Now, please tell Google! :lol2:

Actually, I saw something on the Internet about a "chip butty". I do know that "chips" is the British term for "French fries" or, as some infamously called them a few years ago, "Freedom fries". Anyway, I found this picture....

I really can't decide if it looks tasty or unappetizing. (It's the ketchup with white bread that gets to me....)

Then again, some Americans eat this:

A deep fried bunless chicken breast sandwich with cheese does not exactly appeal to me, either. I guess I am a fussy eater...

If it's 7 a.m., then I head for a bacon, egg and cheese bagel from McDonald's. So good. Then, straight to bed. :)

Something salty or pretty much any kind of pasta. There is a family-owned Italian restaurant in my town that makes baked ziti I could eat every day of my life....slobber....

ME TOO! hahah...my boyfriend always knows when I am in clinical because I whip out the pancake mix and mrs. buttersworth. I think last rotation I ate them 3 nights in a row..for supper! Now he makes sure our cupboard is stalked before I enter a rotation.:lol2:

I'm a CNA and we pass nutrition drinks to some of the residents at the end of the day. I always go all out and make something for everyone, especially those who have had a weight loss. A lot of them LOVE "shakes" made with peanut butter and chocolate ice cream and by the time I get home I'm craving a shake for myself.

I also always want spinach pie. And coffee, but if I have to work the next day I can't drink it or I'll be up all night.

I wish i would start craving fresh fruits and veggies instead because my thighs are starting to rub together now :(

I've never been one to actually eat after a long shift because I'm usually so tired that all I want to do is go to sleep, but I think I'll make a trip to McDonald's after my shift ends tomorrow morning! :)

After a bad night shift, I crave the heart attack on a plate- hashbrowns, biscuits, bacon, and sausage patties all covered in gravy. Maybe I'm just subconsciously trying to give myself a MI so I don't have to go back to work.

Chips are better than French fries. Chips are bigger and more chunky than French fries :)

I love to make my own and oven bake them in a little oil so less fattening and taste good. Yep butty is just another word for sandwhich, sarnie or whatever :D

Let's see...I have several favorites (although bear in mind I'm talking about when I get done with a long day of studying and preschooler parenting).

1. My homemade baked rigatoni, full of fresh herbs, mozzarella, and Parmigiano-Reggiano.

2. Pizza with black olives, pepperoni, and extra cheese.

3. A wrap with deli chicken, mozzarella, onions, green peppers, all doused in tabasco.

4. Baked spicy chicken with pasta e olio.

So basically, give me spicy and carb-loaded and I'll be happy. Mmmmm...now I am so hungry!

Oh, I also tend to finish with a cup of Earl Grey (two sugars and a little sweet cream) - for some reason, that type of tea just helps me relax.

Pasta or Mexican food followed by some chocolate. Yummy!!
