Columbia SON MDE 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to start this thread for those who are all applying to the Columbia School of Nursing MDE program for 2019 Entry.

I figured we could all share our thoughts/ questions/ concerns here, or just use this to meet some new people ?

My name is Gurdeep, I'm from NY, and I'm a recent Grad from Binghamton University. Looking forward to meeting all of you ?

Hi all! I'd love some advice from the group. I'm contemplating applying to the MDE vs. MDE/DNP program and just can't decide if it's better to apply to both and decide later that I may only want to pursue the MDE portion (understanding that by doing so I'm applying to a more selective cohort), or just apply to the MDE with the thinking that if accepted I could apply to the DNP from within.

Thoughts? Advice? Thanks!

You can apply through an internal application into the DNP when you're here. It's not a difficult process for you as long as you keep your grades up. Some of my peers who got into the DNP are considering just completing the MDE, some who didn't get into the DNP are considering applying for the DNP. Your plans will change the more you discover nursing and just keep your options open. Faculty already know you by the time you want to apply, so you have a good chance of getting in. During orientation, they told us last year, only 2 out of 40 didn't get into DNP but there were personal factors.

Thanks so much. Super helpful. Would it be okay if I messaged you with a few additional questions?

Hey!

After the video portion you will be redirected to a page before starting your timed essay. I definitely changed into more comfortable clothes before the essay portion

Has anyone here attended an MDE open house? I attended the one from earlier this week and found it very informative.

(I would imagine that the answer is likely no but....!) does anyone know if is possible to re-record the video essay? I got confused between the "practice" and actual video recording that counts, and thought I had more attempts but turns out I didn't :). I'm not sure what to do because I realized midway, and then completely messed up the rest of it :). Any suggestions would be appreciated!

@emilianany I attended a virtual open house a few months ago and I agree it was very informative.

Congrats to everyone who submitted their applications! I'm still working on mine, but I am almost done. I was wondering if Columbia holds interviews for candidates?? I could not find any information about it on their website but I don't want to assume they do not either. LMK!

Hi SFgirl1234! Everything I've seen states that the video submission takes the place of an interview.
