Hey Everyone!
Just wanted to start this thread for those who are all applying to the Columbia School of Nursing MDE program for 2019 Entry.
I figured we could all share our thoughts/ questions/ concerns here, or just use this to meet some new people ?
My name is Gurdeep, I'm from NY, and I'm a recent Grad from Binghamton University. Looking forward to meeting all of you ?

Hi! Thank you for creating the thread! I am currently still a student completing my undergrad at Rutgers. I am looking to apply to NYU, Rutgers, and Columbia. Columbia is my first choice, NYU my second, and Rutgers is my last choice. I am really hoping and praying to get into Columbia. I am looking forward to connecting and meeting you all!
I am applying for the MDE/DNP for Columbia but if I just get accepted into the MDE program I would be happy with that too. The only thing that worries me the most is the cost of tuition if I were to get accepted. But right now I am focusing on volunteering, getting some volunteering experience.

Hello! I am applying for the MDE/DNP for Columbia as well as Yale, Boston College and John Hopkins. I currently attend CUNY City College of New York and will be graduating this fall or the coming spring semester with a bachelors of science in biology. Columbia is my first choice since I already live in New York and the commute is only 10-15 minutes. I am interested in doing the geriatric track for DNP or pediatric. Does anyone know when the application opens?
I called about 2 weeks ago to find out, and the lady I spoke to over the phone said they have not posted yet when application opens but she said it would most likely be the same date as last year, September and the last day to apply would be around the second week of October.
Hey! I actually attended an Info session with an admissions person, and they told me the application opens the first of July.

Hi! I am currently completing my undergrad in Portland. I am applying to Columbia's MDE for 2019, as well as John's Hopkins and Duke, probably. I might apply to some other places but these are my considerations at the moment. Columbia's program is my first choice for a few reasons - namely that it is in NYC, is only 15 months for a Master's, and is a prestigious program. However, it is SO EXPENSIVE??!?!?!? I'm only applying to the MDE portion and not MDE/DNP but still.... the price is discouraging.

Hi everyone! I will be applying to the Columbia MDE/DNP program for 2019 entry. I am interested in the adult-gerontology primary care track. I've looked through past Columbia SON threads and very few applicants seemed to be admitted for this specialty. Anyone know why that is? Is it a small class possibly?
Glal2, How did you go about setting up a meeting with someone from admissions? Was this at an open house?

Hello my lovelies! TeachEm here, I was accepted/will be attending the Columbia MDE/DNP Program for the FNP specialty in May (I applied last cycle)! I hope to be a resource for you guys as you embark on this application process together, and I will try my best to answer any questions that you guys have (if you have any)! You guys are definitely a bit early for the application, but it's never too early to start writing rough drafts for the essay and to think of LOR writers!

Hi TeachEm, thanks for offering to help us out! I have a question in regards to the essays. I've heard several times that the personal statement and LORs are a big deciding factor for admission so I'd like to get a head start on that portion of the application. The website only states that there will be two topics to address with no specifics of the actual topic (unless I missed it while reading). Do you have any insight as to what we should expect to write about? Also, many schools ask for a general "personal statement" explaining our desire to become a nurse and such. I did not see that on Columbia SON's page. Do these essays take the place of that statement or is that also a requirement? Thank you!
