  1. I was also advised it would take 90 days. Perhaps it'll be the same with your program
  2. I received my first payment this week. No email, it was just deposited into my account. My start date was around 9/12.
  3. What sort of notification did you receive? Was it just your bank letting you know of a deposit? I was advised first installment would be end of November although I learned I was a participant in early September as well.
  4. Check your emails! Just received notification that I received the award!!
  5. Just checked, and I received my cosignature this morning as well. I accepted on 8/9. Is this essentially a guarantee??
  6. I was fortunate to receive news that I am a finalist for nurse corps loan repayment on the morning of 8/3. I've accepted the award but still under final review, curious if anyone else is under review as well? It's been some time since I accepted. DTI > 100% HPSA 15 Family Medicine NP
  7. Most likely the externship is cancelled but look through these hospitals' career pages. A lot of them are looking for techs to fill their staffing shortages due to the pandemic. It's a foot in the door. @rfg456
  8. I don't think they do! I've had a few of my clinicals there and unfortunately they don't seem quite as keen on hiring new grads as Mt. Sinai.
  9. Current student there. This requirement was recently amended. It is not my intended specialty but from what I’ve heard students are no longer required to take a year off to acquire experience. However, I believe students will still need a years experience in acute care prior to graduation. So essentially you’d have the option to complete this requirement concurrently or take the year off. I do not think this would effect the seamless scholarship as it is a condition of the school, but that I’m not certain about.
  10. Although it may change for the next cohort, one of the books required was "The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down" by Anne Fadimen. Regardless of what program you find yourself in, I highly recommend this book. It addresses the importance of cultural competency in healthcare. Great read.
  11. There is one clinical day each week during the first summer semester. During Fall and Spring it is two days. Final summer semester is strictly didactic and NCLEX prep.
  12. Thank you! @oneday_nursepoundcake Honestly, I'm going to say no. The prerequisites are there to prepare you for the course work. There will be some recommended reading so that's certainly something you can do. What I believe will benefit you most prior to beginning the program is lots of rest and time with family and friends. Do what you enjoy and get it out of your system. I can not stress enough the importance mental health will play during this year.
  13. Hi @Gmilitar Current student here. The first summer semester is definitely the most trying. Any time you walk into a class and the professor starts off by saying "this IS possible" you know you're in for it. It's only a 10 week semester and the course load is heavy. Most weeks there will be at least one exam. Weekly quizzes and so many assignments your head will spin. BUT it goes by extremely fast and you'll be amazed how much you learned in such a short period of time. Currently finishing up the second semester and it is a mix of accelerated and regular pace courses so it is a tad bit lighter. Basically, if you can make it through that first summer semester you are golden. Just be ready to devote your life to this program. Sit down with your friends and family and explain you will be MIA and will need all the support you can get. It is intense but totally possible if you're dedicated. The clinical sites are easily my favorite aspect of the program. What you see at Mt Sinai and NYP you're not likely to find in your local hospital. This is where patients go when their cases are very complicated or they're in need of the newest innovations. It's an awesome opportunity to network with some of the best healthcare institutions in the nation.
  14. I believe the best nurses are those that have a wide range of experiences not just those that did well in school. I think the school shares this philosophy. My prereqs were strong but ungrad eh, mediocre. Experience and LORs were very strong, however, and I was accepted into MDE/DNP with scholarships. When someone suddenly becomes unresponsive, not a soul will care whether the nurse got an A or B in Anatomy, what matters is their capacity for critical thinking and how they assert themselves - all of which are learned in the real world not through books. It is certainly important to be knowledgeable and trust me CUSON will ensure that you will be - BUT it is not number one. Do not stress too much, sounds to me like you have well-thoughtout, well-rounded application.
