Seattle University DNP 2020 Cohort (RN or APNI)
Hey all! I'm in the CNM APNI year right now. Congrats on submitting your applications and on getting interviews! My advice to you would be try to be yourself as much as possible in your interview. Take some deep breaths ahead of time and let your personality shine through. One of the reasons I applied and decided to attend Seattle U is that they value the individual and their experiences, not just their GPA. Come prepared knowing why you are applying to your specific program and why you want to be a nurse practitioner. Also, I'd suggest reflecting on why you're interested in Seattle U and how their vision and values align with the work you want to do and/or the experiences you've had. When I interviewed I took in a portfolio notebook with some pre thought out questions jotted down. I think I opened it when I was asking questions but didn't actually write anything in it during the interview. It was nice to have as a safety net in case I forgot what I had wanted to ask. Each track does their own interviews, so not everyone's experience is going to be the same. I applied for CNM, so my interview was with staff from the midwifery track. The staff were incredibly kind, and although they were asking questions in an interview-like fashion, it still felt very much like a conversation to me. Congrats and best of luck to you all!

I think that is completely normal to feel that way! No matter how much you prepare for an interview there is no way to know the questions that will be asked. I felt pretty good after my interview, but there were those questions that I didn't anticipate and some that I probably could have answered better. I spent the entire day of my interview (I interviewed first thing in the morning) playing over and over in my head what I said and coming up with better answers. Knowing there was going to be quite a while between interviewing and finding out I decided I need to reign that in. I ended up reading an article about stressing after an interview, which really helped calm me down. I of course can't find it now, but it said something along the lines of: the person who interviewed you isn't second guessing everything they said and they aren't second guessing everything you said. I know they listened to my answers, took notes, and are taking into consideration what I said. However, I don't think they are replaying in their head over and over the details of all my answers. That somehow helped me find peace, because at this point I can't change anything.
