Columbia SON MDE 2019

Updated:   Published

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to start this thread for those who are all applying to the Columbia School of Nursing MDE program for 2019 Entry.

I figured we could all share our thoughts/ questions/ concerns here, or just use this to meet some new people ?

My name is Gurdeep, I'm from NY, and I'm a recent Grad from Binghamton University. Looking forward to meeting all of you ?

Hey guys, I was in your shoes last year. I know how nerve wrecking the application process is, and I'm sure you all did your best already. Rather than spend the entire time worrying, take this time to relax between now and January. Once school starts, you won't have a break, so go on a trip, spend time with family and friends, try a new hobby etc! It will put things into perspective for you! Good luck to you all!

Hi All,

I submitted my application to the MDE/DNP PMH program. I'd like to connect with other individuals who have applied to this program, and also see who may have further insight into the financial aid portion.

The cost of the program is a bit frightening. I know a few people that have completed it, and everyone says they took out loans for it. Aside from the scholarship for $27k (which it seems like almost everyone receives), I'm wondering what other options other applicants are intending on using to pay for the program. At what point will you be applying for aid? Any insight would be much appreciated. Specific scholarships? Grants? Federal Aid? Private loans (e.g., Wells Fargo, Sallie Mae)?

Thanks! And good luck to other applicants!

I just checked the application status and my GRE has been waived on 10/19/18! It says my application is now complete but I haven't received an email that my application moved on to the second step for review.

Same. I would love some sort of confirmation that our applications have moved on to the second step.

I submitted my app on 10/15! The application portal shows a green checkmark next to all the items except the essays which have little essay (?) icons next to them. I still haven't gotten an email about my application making it through the first step. The next few months of waiting are going to feel like forever!

Also, was there a priority deadline for this application? I thought I heard something about it, and the 2018 thread for this program talks about there being one, but I couldn't find any info or a specific date on the Columbia website or in the emails that Columbia sent.

Good luck to you all! (:

I contacted the admissions office before and they told me there is no priority deadline for MDE/DNP this year

Whew! That's a relief. Thanks!

I submitted my application on 9/28 and I still have an X next to my GRE score. I also have an X next to a transcript because I am still in the process of taking prerequisites. They told me it was okay that I have an X on my transcript, but why is it taking so long to waive my GRE. I am getting nervous.

I still have a red X next to my GRE score too. I followed the email instructions and filled in 10/15/2018 for date completed. I didn't put any numbers in the boxes for scores. My application was submitted on the 13th.

With regards to the documents received, the site only indicates that they received "Resume," "First Essay," and "Second Essay." I hadn't used those labels for my PDFs in uploading, and it appeared they were lacking another essay that I submitted. I e-mailed them immediately for confirmation that they received the other essay and correct files. The next day they stated they received each item.

I imagine it'll take them quite some time to go through all the applications and mark off each one individually. There seemed to be quite a few bugs (and typos) in the application. . .

I submitted my completed application on 8/2/18. GRE appeared as a grey checkmark and waived on 10/16/18 and received email confirmation that my application made it through the initial review and was sent to the faculty admissions committee on 10/17/18.

WHAT A LONG WAIT WE HAVE!! I wish we had early decisions  Lol, but alas we need to have patience.

So we have to apply for scholarships by December this year? Like prior to admission decisions? Or we apply by December 2019? Does anyone know how that works??

Well, I submitted my application as well. The wait will be nerve wracking, but it will all be worth it. Blessings to all!
