Columbia SON MDE 2019
Hey friends - I'm wondering how much you're anticipating on taking out in loans, after considering the amount in scholarships you've received/fed unsub loan? For me - after the scholarships, the fed loan, adjusting the room & board and transportation amounts given by CU, subtracting the health insurance, and not relying on any personal savings, my figure for the Grad Plus loan is estimated somewhere around ~$40k. Does anyone have any other input or insight into Fin Aid, or what you're doing to consider how much to borrow?

Columbia SON MDE 2019
Hi All - anyone still finishing up pre-reqs? I'm enrolled in a Stats class (since my last one was >5 years ago), but I've not yet signed up for a Nutrition class. Anyone familiar with an accelerated online course location? Or has anyone done the uexcelsior credit by exam? (If so, what did you think?) Any input appreciated !

My scholarship was 15k for the MDE, and 40k for the seamless into DNP. I would've liked to see the full 27k for the first portion (considering I'm already broke), but it is what it is and I'll find some way to make the entirety of it work. What else did everyone else get? I agree, we should start a FB page. For full SoN or by specialty (or both)?

Separate question on pre-reqs: Does anyone know offhand if CU accepts credit by exam? Or has anyone else done this? The last remaining course that I'll have to take prior to starting (if accepted) would be Nutrition. I really absolutely do not want to pay for another course entirely, but I've been looking around at excelsior.edu's UExcel Exam, where apparently the exam costs $110 and they award you 3.0 credits. . .

(This is one, in particular, that I've just stumbled upon: Science of Nutrition - Excelsior College - excelsior.edu)

Yeah, I've taken AP1 and 2 w/ lab. Currently taking Micro w/ lab, and I love it. I took 2 stats courses in the past, but they were more than 5 years ago. I'm sure I'll have no probably w them. Nutrition I still have yet to take. I was probably going to take these two (Nut and Stats) online.

Pace University ABSN Spring 2019
Hi All - I'm considering applying to Pace's ABSN program, too. I'm wondering - for those that perhaps did a bit more research or were accepted - how much the entirety of the program is (~$70k, correct?), how you intend to fund it, and if you've been offered any insight into financial aid, grants, or scholarships Pace might offer its accepted students? Thanks a bunch! (Ps, I've applied to Columbia's MDE/DNP, applying to NJCUs ABSN, and considering MGH. Main goal is to become a PMHNP, but want to do so in a cost and time efficient manner.)

I'm still taking classes, too. I also submitted current transcripts to show enrollment and that most of the pre-reqs are complete. Unless you haven't taken any pre-reqs, I wouldn't think finishing classes would negatively affect you. (Actually, it was one of my main reasons for applying to CU!) The e-mail mentioned, "If you are currently completing coursework, we will email you in the near future on how to submit these grades."

New Jersey City University (NJCU) Accelerated Nursing 2019
Hi All - I'm looking to apply to NJCU 2019 cohort, too. I've also submitted my application for Columbia's MDE/DNP Program, since I'm really interested in pursuing a career as a PMHNP. My worry with Columbia is its cost. I have been considering applying to NJCU's ABSN, and then applying for MSNs and DNPs, the latter at CU as first choice. I'm wondering if anyone else is in a similar boat -- in that the goal is to become an APRN in a cost and time efficient manner? Where else are you applying to or where else did you apply to? (I've also been considering MGH and Rutgers.) Any insight and suggestions welcome!

@PsychNP I just added you as a friend. I don't yet have the ability to PM yet, as I've not yet sent many messages on this forum. Either way, thanks ! Also - anyone else having any trouble rationalizing the cost of CU? I mean, I love their program layout. I like that you come out with a DNP. I like the location. But I cannot seem to come to terms with $270k. Of course, I know I'll be able to pay it back once coming out. But really? I just attended a Webinar for MGH today. Their program is 3 years (albeit coming out with an MSN), half the cost, and offers significantly more scholarships. Anyone applying there, too? Or where else are you all looking at?

NJCU ABSN 2018-19 Cohort
Hi All - I'm looking to apply to NJCU 2019 cohort. I've just submitted my application for Columbia's MDE/DNP Program, since I'm really interested in pursuing a career as a PMHNP. My worry with Columbia is its cost, with a total of ~$270k for the whole ~4 years. I have been considering, instead, applying to NJCU's ABSN, and then applying for MSNs and DNPs, the latter at CU as first choice. I'm wondering how those of you who have completed or are in the program managed to fund your attendance? Did you receive scholarships? Does NJCU offer any scholarships? Did you take out federal or private loans? Did you refer to HRSA at all? What was your total cost of attendance (something like ~36k or 48k? - not sure if it's 3 or 4 semesters)? For the program itself, what were the pros and cons of it? Do you feel the classes are challenging and enable you to pursue competitive higher education? How was support from faculty? Do you need a vehicle for transportation to clinical rotations (JC prospective)? Lastly, have you pursued MSNs or DNPs after finishing, or were you able to apply to MSN/DNP programs whilst enrolled? (I am mainly looking to pursue the role of a PMHNP in a cost and time effective manner. I'm trying to decide if it'd be worth it to save ~60k if I'd still have to wait >8 months before beginning any grad program that would enable to practice as an NP.) Any insight you might be able to give would be incredibly helpful!
