NJCU ABSN 2018-19 Cohort
Hi Everyone, Great to hear from you all - can't believe it's finally almost time to apply! I am applying to the Jersey City cohort, and in a few weeks I'll be done with my last pre-req (A&P II). I do recall them saying your pre-reqs have to be fully complete by the application deadline, which for JC is 2/28/18. This is because all final transcripts need to be received through NursingCAS by then. NJCU's info for the 2018-19 class is now updated on their website if you want to check it out. As for the HESI, I'm not exactly sure yet, but I will be looking into it on Oct. 1st. :) Good luck to everyone, and I look forward to discussing more! Brittany

New Jersey City University nursing 2018 cohort
Hi Diana, I've been working on my prereqs for the NCJU ABSN 2018 cohort since November, and will be done with them this week after I take my finals. Time flies, there is finally a thread about the 2018 class! Haha. I look forward to starting the application process in October, and getting to know some potential nursing classmates. :) Brittany

Hello, Thanks. I see the link says online-nursing-schools, but this program is on campus. Not sure if there is a better location, but wanted to advise. Thanks!

NJCU ABSN 2018-19 Cohort
Hi Aspiring Nurses, So I may be a bit early, considering the 2017 class is just now getting their acceptance letters for this coming Fall. But since late last year, I've been preparing to apply to the NJCU ABSN Jersey City cohort that will begin in 2018. I wasn't able to apply to the 2017 cohort as my prerequisites were not finished in time. I figured others may be in the same boat, so I figured why not get the conversation going. The application will open in October, and that's creeping up quickly, as it always does. Therefore, I'd like to start this forum to discuss any questions or concerns we might have. I'm attending the info seminar next Wednesday, 3/29 at 5 PM - anyone else going? Some of my concerns are financial aid, specifically how much non-need based aid is available as many of us may not qualify for need-based aid if we work full time now. I currently work in Financial Aid, so if you have any questions about that, I'd be happy to give any info I have. I'm also curious about credit requirements for prereqs - I can't seem to find specific numbers (e.g. how many A&P credits do we need). Overall, I hope to connect with others who are interested in applying to start in 2018, Jersey City and Wall - please share your thoughts, and I look forward to speaking with you! Brittany

NJCU ABSN 2017
Thanks for the response! It makes sense to try and stick with the 8 - I've looked at every other ABSN program in the area, and they all require 8. I work for Ross U School of Medicine, which is under DeVry U, so that's how I'm able to get (at least some of) the courses for free, and they do actually include a lab component as well, which has been great! It's just unfortunate that the timing is likely going to force me to have to take my last 4 A&P credits elsewhere, but I suppose I should be grateful to have had any covered for free. Thanks for providing some perspective on that! My current position is in Financial Aid, so from what I understand, most schools have a cost of attendance - which includes not only tuition and fees, but also living expenses such as books & supplies, housing, etc. Whatever the established cost of attendance is should be the maximum students are eligible to apply for in Federal and/or private loans. You can't just say 'I think I'll need $50k, so that's what I'll take out' - it's a way of controlling debt, but also allowing for living expenses. However, I've been unable to find cost of attendance info for NJCU. I'll be at the info seminar on 3/29 - if I find any additional info on this, I'll be sure to share. Thanks again for your input!

NJCU ABSN 2017
Hi Everyone - I'm currently working on my prereqs and plan to apply to the 2018 Jersey City cohort. I'm attending an info seminar on 3/29 but have just been so antsy trying to find answers to some questions! Since this is the most up-to-date forum, I figured I'd pose some questions I haven't been able to find or get answers to yet. I'm having some issues with A&P availability through my employer (who offers the classes for free), so I was wondering if anyone knows how many A&P credits are required? I know most schools say 8, but NJCU/NursingCAS doesn't seem to specify. Anyone know if 6 A&P credits is enough? My employer offers A&P 1 through 4, each of which is 2 credits, and it looks like A&P 4 won't be available for me in time (frustrating)... Trying to find out asap if I should seek a 4-credit class somewhere else. Also, I'm curious about living expenses. Since I work full time now, I won't be eligible for too much Federal Aid, and I imagine a lot of students are in the same boat. Do you know if students are eligible to apply for tuition and living expenses in other forms (e.g. private loans)? In other words, I'm looking to find out if the cost of attendance goes above tuition & fees, because I will likely need some living expenses in the form of loans. Good luck to you all as you await the decision for 2017 - based on last year, it should be any day now! Brittany

NJCU ABSN 2016
Hi Kbreen1, I'm late to this thread as well, since I just started researching the ABSN at NJCU, and plan on applying for Fall 2018 (unfortunately, I won't have my prereqs done by the Feb 2017 app deadline for the 2017 cohort). I asked the same question - can I apply if I am in progress on a prereq, and the answer was no. Everything has to be fully completed in order for your application to be considered. Maybe I'll see you in the 2018 cohort if you end up in the same situation as me. :) More time to plan and save! Good luck.
