Hello
I was just wondering who else is applying for the Fall 2011 start at Collin County in McKinney! Do you guys know how many applied & what the minimum amount of points was for the last term? What are your stats? (if you don't mind sharing!) Are you applying anywhere else? What school is your first choice?
I have 14 points. I am applying without one pre-req and received 6 points from the PSB. If I don't get accepted this time, I am hopeful for Spring 2012!
Good luck to everyone!
P.S. If anyone who is in the program or been in the program, has any tips to share, that would be great!!
Our first semester schedule right now is Mon 8:30-2:30 (Theory), Tues 9:00-1:00 (Skills Lab), Wed or Thurs clinical 6:45-2:30 OR Wed and Thurs clinical 6:45-11:00. Count on being at school at least some Thursdays (or Wednesday's, depending on your clinical schedule) for simulation and being there for a couple hours on Friday or Saturday to turn in your clinical paperwork and go to the open lab to practice skills.
It is possible to work while in school, though I don't recommend it. There are a couple of us who work full time on the night shift (this is what I do, I would not suggest it) and a decent number who have part time or PRN jobs.
Who's going to be working? Part time I mean......or at least attempting to.
I have been working part time at a hospital on Sat and Sun 12 hour shifts each day with full time classes M-F and two small children (3 if you count my hubby) at home. I have no other choice.
The good thing about my work is that I am allowed to study while I sit at my desk. I am truly blessed with the type of work that I do but I sacrifice plenty for that paycheck / insurance.
If I do decide to quit for the Fall, does any one know how much the Student Ins. costs? Cause to be put on my Hubby's is a doooooozy.
For those of you still in Micro. . .What campus/days? I may be in class with you and not even know it! I'm T/TR afternoon at SCC.
As far as working. . .When I was in the LVN program I didn't work at all. Class M-F 0830-1530 and my program only lasted 11 months! I'm surprised I didn't have a book growing off the end of my nose!
This time around I will be working FT. There is just no way around it. The good thing about it is that I will still have plenty of study time based on my schedule.
As far as I know, I don't have an orientation yet. I do my first semester skills check-off the end of April and have another challenge exam in August. During my bridge semester, I will then have second semester skills check-off and will be placed accordingly based on the results of my exams and check offs. I'll either bridge into the second semester with all of you in the Spring or in the third semester with those who started Spring 2011. Talk about confusion.

I have to work part-time,. . . no other option unfortunately. But I already have a part-time job at a health club in addition to my full-time job so I will be resigning from my FT job in August obviously. I did, however, look at the schedule for nursing students doing their first semester right now. It looks like Mon 9-1 (Lecture/Lab), Tues 8-1 (if I remember correctly) for lecture, and clinicals either 6:30a-3:30p Wed OR Thur. . . OR clinicals 6:30a-11a Wed AND Thur.
We will learn more in the orientation and especially when the fall class schedule is available because everything is pretty much set from there, but I thought this might give you somewhat of an idea. Of course this doesn't include hours upon hours of studying, reading, and careplans!!!
